Pat Mcmanus Band - Dark Emeral Highway (2013)

Year: 2013 (CD 2013)
Label: Rock House Music (Europe), RHMCD004
Style: Blues Rock, Hard Rock
Country: Ireland
Time: 49:00
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 335 Mb

Irish guitar legend Pat McManus grew up in a family steeped in Irish Traditional music. His first instrument was the violin, which he started playing at the tender age of 4, but by the age of 7 he was also playing the acoustic guitar and making live appearances with the family band and on national television. Being a 'folk' purist he had not really thought about 'Rock'n'Roll', that was until the age of 18, his thoughts had changed and so he picked up the electric guitar...
Pat then formed what was to become 'Mama's Boys' with his two brothers John and Tommy and they very quickly became an overnight hit. They went on to tour with such bands as 'Hawkwind', 'Wishbone Ash' and the Legendary 'Thin Lizzy' on their farewell tour before, culminating in the band playing at 'Reading Festival' as an unsigned band, unheard of at the time. It was at this time all the hard work paid off as the band were signed to a worldwide deal by Jive/Arista. This opened a number of doors for the band, along with the acclaim and recognition of Pats talents this led to the band working with numerous artists including Bon Jovi, Ratt, Scorpions, Marillion, Black Sabbath, Gary Moore, Sting, Rush and many more as well as all their own headlining tours.
From late 1995 to 2001 following the passing of his brother, Pat and brother John returned with new band 'Celtus'. They were immediately signed to Sony Records and their first CD 'Moonchild' won rave reviews and much critical acclaim including the Irish Music Award for 'Best Album' in 1996. The band went on to release a further 4 albums and along with touring the UK several times fulfilled a life's ambition in playing the Albert Hall.
Deciding it was time for a break and a change of musical direction Pat returned to Ireland where he continued to make music working on several other artists albums as well as writing for film and TV. During this time Pat stayed busy touring Ireland and spent time writing and recording for several traditional projects, which culminated in an appearance at the 'White House'.
In 2006 the 'Pat McManus Band' was born and Pat released his first solo outing - 'In My Own Time'.  The band have since released 4 CD's and 3 Live DVD's' and along with his band members Paul Faloon (Drums) and Marty McDermott (Bass and Backing Vocals) have maintained one of the busiest touring schedules out there. So much so they have been quoted by many as being 'one of the hardest working bands on the touring circuit' and with a full diary this is set to continue.
Pat's skills on numerous instruments and as a songwriter have now made him what is sometimes almost flippantly called a 'legend'. Still he is a force of nature and not only been named as one of the top 5 Irish guitarists of all time but also mentioned in the press as one of top 50 of all time best guitarists in the world. He is still affectionately known as the 'Professor', a name given to him back in the eighties due to his willingness to help young players and fans learn more about instruments a trait he still has to this day. Pat is still very much in touch with his fans and is still a real gentleman of rock!

Minoru Niihara (ex Loudness) - One [Japan] (1989)

Year: 1989  (CD August 31, 1989)

Style: Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
Country: Osaka, Japan (March 12, 1960)
Time: 51:26
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 342 Mb

Minoru Niihara is a Japanese singer. He is the original and current lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Loudness.
His first band was Earthshaker, in which he played bass and sang. His vocal style was influenced by blues singers, but he adapted quickly his voice to the high pitch tones requested in a heavy metal act. He was selected after an audition to become the lead singer of Loudness in 1981 and his voice, together with the flashy guitar work of guitarist Akira Takasaki were recognized as a trademark of the band. Although the first three albums were sung using mostly Japanese lyrics, he started singing in English only on their 1984 album, Disillusion.
After Loudness released Jealousy, he left the band in 1988 and was replaced by the American singer Mike Vescera. After working with several bands (including Ded Chaplin, Sly and X.Y.Z.>A), as well as his solo career, he returned to Loudness in 2001. He released two solo albums: One in 1989 and Ashes To Glory in 2006, in addition to recording many albums with Sly and X.Y.Z.>A. In 2008 he formed a parallel band called Nishidera Minoru, with Show-Ya's singer Keiko Terada and Earthshaker's singer Masafumi "Marcy" Nishida. They released an album and produced and organized the Hard na Yaon 2009 festival.

Gerry Rafferty - Another World (2000)

Year: 2000 (CD 2003)
Label: Hypertension Music (Germany), HYP 3218
Style: Pop Rock, Rock
Country: Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland (16 April 1947 - 4 January 2011)
Time: 69:51
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 463 Mb

Its pretty weak, the production kills it really, all sterile drums and overbearing sound. At times it feels like he is going for a Jeff Lynne type style but it just sounds awkward.
Gerry ended up self releasing it, which was a sad state of affairs for such a great artist, "keep it to yourself" is just impossibly cool and there are a couple of other fine songs but it's scant comfort sadly.
(rateyourmusic.com/release/album/gerry-rafferty/another-world) Review by GARFIELDACRES Jun 29 2022

I LOVE Rafferty's work but this, by his usual standards, is awful.
The production is trite and the songs lack the originality that preceded this CD.
Of course compared the other dross on offer as music these days it's quite good, I do hope Gerry manages a return to form (and real musicians) on his next offering.

I totally concur with the review of mojojeff - this is great stuff from the guy who brought you "Baker Street" back in '78. Track 3, "Keep It To Yourself" is just so cool you'll wanna play it over and over, and "Children of the World", "Sweet Love" are excellent as well, among others on this great CD. This album is everything I hoped it would be. If you bought & loved "City To City" way back when, you'll also very much enjoy this disc. It's great to hear that after all these years of relative obscurity, Gerry Rafferty's still making great music every bit of the caliber of the radio hits.

A brilliant return to form from Rafferty. _Another World_ is Rafferty's finest release since _City to City_, the superb sound quality of the production almost knocks you back. Great stuff Gerry!

Ferdy Doernberg - Just A Piano And A Handful Of Dreams (1995)

Year: 1995 (CD 1995)
Label: Fresh Fruit (Germany), 084-12112
Style: Pop Rock, Rock
Country: Bad Hersfeld, Germany (June 10, 1967)
Time: 72:23
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 424 Mb

Ferdy Doernberg (born 10 June 1967) is an English-German heavy metal musician. He is the last original member of Rough Silk, which he founded in 1989. He has also performed with Helloween and Holy Moses. Since 1997, he has been the keyboardist for Axel Rudi Pell's band. From 2006 to 2009, he played the keyboards for Eden's Curse, which was founded by Michael Eden (Lead Vocals) and Paul Logue (Bassist).
The English/German slide guitar/keyboards-player and singer/songwriter Ferdy Doernberg was born in 1967 as the son of the British composer and violin-player Martin Doernberg and the German teacher and writer Dr. Gesine Doernberg.
When he was three years old, his parents moved to Barsinghausen, Germany, but he spends some time in England, too. When he was six years old, he started with piano lessons. At the age of 12, he also started playing guitar and trumpet.
After playing in several school and local bands, he became the lead guitar player of the locally successful punk band "The Wabbles", with whom he played his first over-regional gigs and did his first recordings for a vinyl single. He also played trumpet and piano in a local jazz ensemble for years. His first professional band, Rough Silk, was founded in 1989. Through the years, Ferdy found his own style of playing. As a keyboard player, his favourite instrument is the Hammond organ, the piano and vintage keyboards like the Wurlitzer-piano, accordion and the monophonic Moog synthesizer.
As a guitar player, Doernberg fell in love with the slide guitar and all her relatives like lap and pedal steel, dobro and the Hawaiian guitar. Rough Silk have recorded 8 albums (the last one, A new beginning, was released in April 2009), and toured a lot (as headliner and supporting for example Helloween, Deep Purple, Savatage, Saxon, Accept, Whitesnake and Dio) all over Europe. Since 2007, Doernberg is also the lead-vocalist of the band.
Doernberg also works a lot as a studio musician (keyboards and slide guitars) and has played on more than 100 albums by Roland Grapow (Helloween), Destruction, Freedom Call, Metalium, Tom Angelripper (Sodom), Howard Carpendale, Crimson Glory, John Wesley Harding, Chris Caffrey (Savatage), Powergod, Sweet, Jane, Seven Witches, Sargant Fury, Masterplan, The Traceelords and many others.

Kate Bush - Never For Ever [Japan] (1980)

Year: 7 September 1980 (CD November 2. 2005)
Label: Toshiba Records (Japan), TOCP-67817
Style: Art Rock, Pop Rock
Country: Kent, England (30 July 1958)
Time: 37:30
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 223 Mb

Charts: UK #1, AUS #7, CAN #44, GER #5, FRA #1, NL #4, NZ #31, NOR #2, SWE #16, Israel #5. Canada - Platinum; France, Germany, Netherlands, UK - Gold.
It was Bush's first No. 1 album and was also the first album by a British female solo artist to top the UK Albums Chart, as well as being the first album by any female solo artist to enter the chart at No. 1. It has since been certified Gold by the BPI. It features the UK Top 20 singles "Breathing", "Army Dreamers" and "Babooshka", the latter being one of Bush's biggest hits. Bush co-produced the album with Jon Kelly.
Bush was keen to start producing her work and felt that this was the first album she was happy with, since it was more personal.
The first two albums had resulted in a particular sound, which was evident in every track, with lush orchestral arrangements supporting the live band sound. The range of styles on Never for Ever is much more diverse, veering from the straightforward rocker "Violin" to the wistful waltz of hit single "Army Dreamers". Never for Ever was the first Kate Bush album to feature digital synthesizers and drum machines, in particular the Fairlight CMI, which was programmed by Richard James Burgess and John L. Walters of synth-pop band Landscape. Like her previous two albums, it was initially composed on piano.
Bush's literary and cinematic influences were again to the fore. "The Infant Kiss", the story of a governess who is frightened by the adult feelings she has for her young male charge (who is possessed by the spirit of a grown man), was inspired by the 1961 film The Innocents, which in turn had been inspired by The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. "The Wedding List" drew from Francois Truffaut's 1968 film The Bride Wore Black. "Delius (Song of Summer)" was inspired by the 1968 Ken Russell television film Song of Summer, which portrays the last six years of the life of English composer Frederick Delius, when Eric Fenby acted as his amanuensis. Fenby is mentioned in the lyrics ("in B, Fenby"). "Blow Away (for Bill)" commemorates her lighting director Bill Duffield, killed in an accident at Poole Arts Centre during her 1979 tour. The song links his name to those of several music stars who died in the previous decade-Minnie Riperton, Keith Moon, Sandy Denny, Sid Vicious, Marc Bolan-and one earlier icon, Buddy Holly.

Tomorrow (Steve Howe) - Tomorrow (1968)

Year: February 1968 (CD Jan 29, 1999)
Label: EMI Records (UK), 7243 498819 21
Style: Psychedelic Rock, Psychedelic Pop
Country: London, England
Time: 76:02
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 475 Mb

Tomorrow (previously known as The In Crowd and before that as Four Plus One) were an English musical group active in the 1960s, whose music touched on psychedelic rock, pop and freakbeat. Despite critical acclaim and support from DJ John Peel, who featured them on his "Perfumed Garden" radio show, the band was not a great success in commercial terms. They were among the first psychedelic bands in England, along with Pink Floyd and Soft Machine. Tomorrow recorded the first ever John Peel show session on BBC Radio 1 on 21 September 1967. The band included Steve Howe on guitars, who would later join the British prog band Yes.
As The In Crowd, (not to be confused with the "Questions and Answers" In Crowd) they recorded the songs "Am I Glad to See You" and "Blow-Up" especially for the film Blowup in 1966. The lyric to "Blow-Up" is an almost-literal interpretation of the film's plot. The two songs remained unused however when the Yardbirds were hired to film the nightclub sequence that The In Crowd would have appeared in.
As Tomorrow, they appeared in the 1967 film Smashing Time under the name of the Snarks. John "Junior" Wood was ill during shooting of the film and was replaced by John Pearce, a clothes dealer. Again, their music was not used in the film. Instead, the music used in the film is performed by Skip Bifferty.
During 1967 the band released two singles, one of which, "My White Bicycle", was later covered by heavy rock act Nazareth, and as a novelty record by Neil the Hippy (Nigel Planer) of the British sitcom The Young Ones. According to drummer John 'Twink' Alder, the song was inspired by the Dutch Provos, an anarchist group in Amsterdam which instituted a community bicycle program: "they had white bicycles in Amsterdam and they used to leave them around the town. And if you were going somewhere and you needed to use a bike, you'd just take the bike and you'd go somewhere and just leave it. Whoever needed the bikes would take them and leave them when they were done."
Tomorrow's September 1967 single "Revolution" preceded the Beatles song "Revolution" by a year. In Joe Boyd's book White Bicycles – Making Music in the 1960s he asserts the band's performance of the song one night at the UFO Club as the apotheosis of the '60s UK underground. Tomorrow also jammed with Jimi Hendrix at the UFO Club. There was a long delay between their 1967 single releases and the eventual release of their self-titled album in February 1968, and the album would fail commercially.
However the album has gained a cult following today, with reissues of the album gaining traction more than 50 years after its original release. YouTube postings of the album, as well as their unreleased tracks has also earned Tomorrow their cult status in the 60's and in music as a whole. Much like the music of bands like The 13th Floor Elevators, Kaleidoscope and July, who have all sparked a resurgence years after their music was mainly forgotten by the public, despite having no radio airplay after they disappeared, Tomorrow's self titled vinyl remains a treasure of the late 60's Psychedelic Era.
Tomorrow singer Keith West is perhaps better known as a participant in Mark Wirtz's A Teenage Opera project that gave him the solo hit single "Excerpt from 'A Teenage Opera' (Grocer Jack)" and brief commercial success in 1967. Guitarist Steve Howe later joined progressive rock band Yes, whilst Twink joined the Pretty Things in order to complete their concept album, S.F. Sorrow, before forming the Pink Fairies. John Wood (not to be confused with Sound Techniques producer) sometimes played bass with Jeff Beck.
In 2021, the official biography of Keith West was published in the book "Thinking About Tomorrow – Excerpts from the life of Keith West".

Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad And The Ugly [soundtrack] (1966)

Year: December 29, 1966 (CD 2004)
Label: Capitol Records / MGM Records (US), 72435-98621-2-5
Style: Contemporary Classical, Soundtrack, Pop
Country: Rome, Kingdom of Italy (10 November 1928 - 6 July 2020)
Time: 55:01
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 277 Mb

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was released in 1966 alongside the Western film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, directed by Sergio Leone. The score is composed by frequent Leone collaborator Ennio Morricone, whose distinctive original compositions, containing gunfire, whistling, and yodeling permeate the film. The main theme, resembling the howling of a coyote, is a two-note melody that is a frequent motif, and is used for the three main characters, with a different instrument used for each one: flute for Blondie (Man with No Name), arghilofono (ocarina) for Angel Eyes, and human voices for Tuco.
Among other elements, the score complements the film's American Civil War scenes, containing the mournful ballad "The Story of a Soldier", which is sung by prisoners as Tuco is being tortured by Angel Eyes. The film's famous climax, a three-way Mexican standoff, begins with the melody of "The Ecstasy of Gold" and is followed by "The Trio".
The main theme was a hit in 1968. The soundtrack album was on the charts for more than a year, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard pop album chart and No. 10 on the black album chart. The main theme was also a hit for American musician Hugo Montenegro, whose rendition on the Moog synthesizer was a No. 2 Billboard pop single in 1968. In 2008, the score was featured in the Grammy Museum at L.A. Live.

Genesis - Seconds Out (Live 2xCD) (1977)

Year: 14 October 1977 (CD ????)
Label: Virgin Records (Holland), 0777 7 86357 2 7
Style: Rock, Pop Rock, Art Rock
Country: Godalming, Surrey, England
Time: 48:48, 47:18
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 292, 277 Mb

Charts: UK #4, AUS #74, GER #17, IT #7, NL #19, NZ #14, SWE #26, US #47, CAN #41, FRA #10, SWI #12. Germany, France, UK - Gold.
Seconds Out is the second live album by English progressive rock band Genesis. It was released as a double album on 14 October 1977 on Charisma Records, and was their first with touring drummer Chester Thompson and their last with guitarist Steve Hackett. The majority was recorded in June 1977 at the Palais des Sports in Paris during the Wind & Wuthering Tour. One track, "The Cinema Show", was recorded in 1976 at the Pavillon de Paris during their A Trick of the Tail Tour.
Seconds Out received average to positive reviews upon its release, and reached No. 4 in the UK and No. 47 in the US. Hackett left the group to pursue a solo career while the album was being mixed, reducing Genesis to a core trio of keyboardist Tony Banks, guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford, and drummer and singer Phil Collins.
In July 1977, the Genesis line-up of lead singer and drummer Phil Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist Mike Rutherford, guitarist Steve Hackett, and touring drummer Chester Thompson finished a seven-month tour supporting Wind & Wuthering (1976). For their next step, the group began the process of selecting live recordings that they had assembled in 1976 and 1977 for an official release and their first since Genesis Live (1973).
Seconds Out is compiled mostly from the band's four dates at the Palais des Sports in Paris between 11–14 June 1977. Collins said the group considered the recordings made that year were superior in quality than the ones taken a year prior, and that his singing and Banks's keyboards sounded better compared to the previous tour.

Kate Bush - Live At Hammersmith Odeon [1979] (1994)

Year: 1994 (1979) (CD 1994)
Label: Picture Music International (Canada), 7243 8 30065 2 6
Style: Art Rock, Pop Rock
Country: Kent, England (30 July 1958)
Time: 53:19
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 326 Mb

Live at Hammersmith Odeon is a 1994 live album by the British singer Kate Bush. It is a re-release of a video recording of the 1979 The Tour of Life, first released on home video in 1981, complete with a CD version of the video.
The video and CD contain twelve songs from the tour, consisting mainly of songs from The Kick Inside and Lionheart with a new song "Violin"; which would subsequently appear on Bush's third studio album Never for Ever in 1980.
In September 1979, Bush released an EP of four tracks recorded at the final dates of her only major tour, called On Stage, which reached No. 10 in the UK singles chart. The EP includes a performance of "L'Amour Looks Something Like You" which was cut from the abridged live album.

In 1979, Kate Bush embarked on the first and last tour of her entire career. Given the paucity of her live shows, this CD, only available together with the video of the show, must stand as her only live album. The video effectively shows the extent of her theatrical and very highly choreographed show, but the CD hardly stands up as a live album on its own. Only half of the songs actually performed on the night actually make an appearance. The songs are mixed to sound like their studio counterparts, and the only song graced with a new arrangement is 'James and the Cold Gun', the new and dramatic end section of which accompanied a dance piece in the show. Bush does the best she can with her vocals, given the strenuous nature of the dancing involved in the show, but naturally they tend to be a little breathy and unfocused, and the backing vocalists don't always do a good job trying to reach her high-pitched vocals. Completists will want this, but for others it is inessential.

Grateful Dead - The Grateful Dead (1967)

Year: March 17, 1967 (CD 1991)
Label: Warner Bros. Records (Germany), 7599-27167-2
Style: Psychedelic Rock, Blues Rock
Country: Palo Alto, California, U.S.
Time: 35:37
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 201 Mb

On the originally prepared artwork, the writing for the top of the album cover read "In the land of the dark, the ship of the sun is drawn by the Grateful Dead", a passage taken from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. As the book had become more widely read, some had mistakenly assumed that the band had taken their name from the quote: "We now return our souls to the creator, as we stand on the edge of eternal darkness. Let our chant fill the void in order that others may know. In the land of the night, the ship of the sun is drawn by the grateful dead."[9] They hadn't, and because Garcia worried that it seemed "pretentious", and the band were uneasy about being seen as beholden to any specific philosophy or doctrine, they asked the artist, Stanley Mouse, to stylize the script so that all but the band name were illegible.[10] The central image depicts a 12th-century Chola sculpture of Yoga-Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu. The sculpture is currently housed at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

Robert Plant (ex Led Zeppelin) - Dreamland [Japan] (2002)

Year: July 16, 2002 (CD Jul 10, 2002)
Label: Mercury Records (Japan), UICR-1024
Style: Rock, Classic Rock
Country: West Bromwich, England (20 August 1948)
Time: 59:15
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 369 Mb

Despite a nine year gap since Fate Of Nations, Percy hasn’t lost any creative momentum – Dreamland is another excellent album that continues to reveal new layers to Plant.
It’s quite different from FON, less immediate, a darker, slower, unhurried beast. Give it time though and it will reveal itself to be worthwhile. Plant is leaning into the ageing of his voice – listen to him on a cover of Dylan’s One More Cup Of Coffee, Plant singing with a wizened fragility that works in the song’s haunting blend of darbuka, Spanish guitar and synths. Darbuka, guitar and synths works as shorthand for the palette Plant is working with here, world music (particularly North African percussion) and folk with a slight electronic presence making for a musically literate and heady brew. This reaches its apex with the massive version of Hey Joe, which begins with a sparse electronic deconstruction of the song that becomes increasingly nightmarish with a intentionally unsettling performance from Plant and a full-band freak-out that’s as heavy as anything LZ ever did. Speaking of which, this may be the best band Plant has ever worked with in his solo career, able to adapt flawlessly to any tone or style thrown at them. In particular, drummer Clive Deamer is a master of touch and doesn’t seem capable of mistakes, and Charlie Jones gives a smooth, moody bass performance that adds a lot.
Yet there are times when Plant keeps it pure and simple without the bells and whistles. Morning Dew is beautiful, Plant’s voice a delicate whisper against John Baggott’s entrancing keyboard backing. Perhaps my favourite song is Song To The Siren, Plant giving one of the best performances he has ever put on record in this sensitive, blissful take on Tim Buckley’s classic.
Whether the bleak epic Darkness Darkness or the near surf-rock (yes really) of Dirt In A Hole, Dreamland is a rich and rewarding album that Plant fans should not hesitate to purchase.
