War - War (1971)

Style: Rock, Rhythm and Blues, Funk
Country: Long Beach, California, U.S.

War (originally called Eric Burdon and War) is an American funk/soul/rock band from Long Beach, California, formed in 1969.
The band is known for several hit songs in the 1970s (including "Spill the Wine", "The World Is a Ghetto", "The Cisco Kid", "Why Can't We Be Friends?", "Low Rider", and "Summer"). A musical crossover band, War became known for its eclectic blend of different musical styles, an amalgam of the sounds and styles the band members heard living in the racially diverse ghettos of Los Angeles.
Their album The World Is a Ghetto was Billboard's best-selling album of 1973. The band transcended racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic lineup. War was subject to many lineup changes over the course of its existence, leaving member Leroy "Lonnie" Jordan as the only original member in the current lineup; four other members created a new group called the Lowrider Band.

Eric Burdon & War - The Black Man's Burdon [2CD] (1970)

Year: December 1970 (CD 1986)
Label: Far Out Productions, Inc. (Germany), 827 736-2
Style: Psychedelic Rock, Funk
Country: Long Beach, California, U.S.
Time: 44:43, 45:59
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 262, 262 Mb

The Black-Man's Burdon is the second studio album and first double album by American band Eric Burdon and War, released in December 1970 on MGM Records. It was the last album by the group before Burdon left and the remaining band continued as War.
The title is a pun on The Black Man's Burden, an expression which refers to black slavery, used as the title of a book by E. D. Morel (1920) in response to the poem, "The White Man's Burden" (1899) by Rudyard Kipling, which refers to (and champions) western imperialism (including its history of slavery).
The album includes two suites based on songs by other artists: "Paint It Black" by the Rolling Stones, and "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues, augmented by additional sections composed by the group. (Two similar suites appeared on the group's first album.) The extra material is mostly instrumental, except for "P.C. 3" (P.C. referring to Police Constable, a common abbreviation used in the United Kingdom), a risque poem recited (and probably written) by Burdon over the music. Two other songs include a gospel-style chorus credited as Sharon Scott and the Beautiful New Born Children of Southern California. Richie Unterberger of Allmusic says the album is "Composed mostly of sprawling psychedelic funk jams" and "it does find War mapping out much of the jazz/Latin/soul grooves...".
The front cover shows a black man in silhouette, while the back cover shows Burdon and a woman posed together: the woman sitting on a wall with her legs spread far apart, and Burdon (shirtless) resting the back of his head against her pelvis and gripping her ankles. The gatefold photo is somewhat risque, consisting of the group (mostly shirtless) in a field with two nude women lying in the grass.
The album also came with a numbered 7–inch by 3–inch "war bond" entitling the bearer to $1 off the admission of any War concert.

Dio (Rainbow, Black Sabbath) - Holy Diver [Japanese Ed.] (1983)

Year: May 25, 1983 (CD Dec 21, 1989)
Label: Mercury Records (Japan), PPD-3070
Style: Heavy Metal, Hard Rock
Country: Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S. (July 10, 1942 - May 16, 2010)
Time: 41:32
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 269 Mb

The first track, 'Stand Up and Shout', is reminiscent of 'Turn Up the Night' from Sabbath's 'Mob Rules'. Fast, hard-hitting and a great introduction. I reall enjoy this one.
Then comes the title track. Listening to it now, properly and with my full attention (and great headphones!), I realise that it's actually a good track. I still don't really feel anything with it, but I certainly enjoy it more than I thought. It still feels like a weak point of the album to me. I imagine hearing it 40 years ago upon release would have had a greater impact.
'Gypsy' - this is more like it. Lovely soaring riffs above heavy, punchy riffs - with some banshee-like vocals from Dio.
Some more fantastic vocals on 'Caught in the Middle', and I love the driving bass throughout. The chorus on this track is a highlight of the album for me. The way the guitars climb, then repeat with Dio giving it his all over the top makes the hairs stand up on my arms.
'Don't Talk to Strangers' - the intro to this reminded me of Tony Iommi's thinking behind 'Master of Reality'. By putting some quieter songs on the album, it made the heavier tracks feel heavier. I felt that on this song thanks to the intro. Not only that, but it makes for a nice respite between the metal. When the song kicks in, it makes me think of Iron Maiden. (I should mention I'm not into Maiden, I only know their hits. It feels like they've based all their songs off this track!).
'Straight Through the Heart' - monstrous intro! That riff is absolutely killer and the vocals are top-notch.
Another moment of rest during the intro of 'Invisible'. At first this one fools you into thinking a cheesy 80s ballad is coming, but that's not the case. The riffs are back, and stomping their way through the stories Dio sings to us here.
'Rainbow in the Dark' - I see this is one of Dio's most famous tracks, and I can understand why! The keys on the intro / chorus feel very 80s and that makes me think I've heard it before, but it's such a generic 80s sound it could have been from any song from the decade. I like it though, it's not over-the-top and only dates the song slightly. Riff-wise, I love this and it easily features one of Dios best vocals on the album.
I feel like 'Shame on the Night' works really well as an album-closer. The vocals are ridiculously strong on this one, the instrumental break and breakdown are excellent and the epic backing vocals towards the outro give it a medievel feeling.

Susan Kay Quatro (born June 3, 1950) is an American singer, bass guitarist, songwriter, and actress. In the 1970s, she scored a string of singles that found success in Europe and Australia, with both "Can the Can" (1973) and "Devil Gate Drive" (1974) reaching number one in several countries.
Quatro was born and raised in Detroit. Her father, Art, was a semiprofessional musician and worked at General Motors. Her paternal grandfather was an Italian immigrant to the U.S. and her mother, Helen, was Hungarian and she died in 1992. Her family name of "Quattrocchi" ("four eyes", meaning "bespectacled") was shortened to Quatro. Quatro's family was living in Detroit when she was born. She has three sisters, a brother (Michael Quatro), and one older half-sister. Her parents fostered several other children while she was growing up. Quatro grew up to be an "extrovert but solitary," according to Philip Norman of The Sunday Times, and she only became close to her mother after leaving the US for Britain.

Kansas - Leftoverture [Japanese Ed. Blu-Spec CD] (1976)

Year: October 21, 1976 (CD Aug 24, 2011)
Label: Epic Records (Japan), EICP 20074
Style: Progressive Rock, Soft Rock
Country: Topeka, Kansas, U.S.
Time: 58:50
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 433 Mb

Steve Walsh began to experience writer's block prior to the recording, and his contribution to the album would ultimately be limited to co-authoring three songs; it fell on Kerry Livgren to fill the void. The new compositions retained much of the classically inspired complexity of Livgren's previous work. As with their previous album, Masque, Kansas recorded Leftoverture at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana. The Studio in the Country was so named because, as Livgren described on In the Studio with Redbeard radio show in the episode spotlighting Leftoverture, "it was in the middle of a swamp. We'd walk out of the studio and there would be gators in front of the studio, mosquitos the size of B-52s and at times armadillos would run into the control room."
Leftoverture opens with the song "Carry On Wayward Son", which Livgren wrote as a sequel to "The Pinnacle", the final song from the previous album Masque (1975). The album's title, Leftoverture, is a portmanteau of leftover and overture.

4 Non Blondes - Bigger, Better, Faster, More! (1992)

Year: October 13, 1992 (CD Oct 13, 1992)
Label: Interscope Records (Germany), 7567-92112-2
Style: Alternative Rock
Country: San Francisco, California, U.S.
Time: 41:06
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 299 Mb

Charts: US #13, AUS #4, AUT #1, GER #1, NLD #1, NZ #1, NOR #10, SWE #1, SWI #1, UK #4, Portugal #1б Hungary #1. AUS, SWE, FRA & NLD: Gold; GER: 3x Gold; US, CAN & Spain: Platinum; AUT: 2x Platinum.
The year was 1992; here a band was completing what would become an international success, the first and last work of the 4 Non Blondes. The world was changing at that time; Music was progressively changing. And so, while the great Kurt Cobain was climbing the charts around the world with Smells Like Teen Spirit, a small group of young friends was just debuting in their career, probably unaware of unleashing a quick dart of innovation, a great shake to the international musical scene.
It's an incredible album, almost perfect, that should be listened to in its entirety and immediately, without the external world distracting you from that Masterpiece; it's a shout, this album, and let it shout in peace, you won't regret it. It's also a very varied album, talking about genres: the predominant one is undoubtedly Rock, but you certainly can't say that "Bigger, Better, Faster, More!" is just rock; there's also a strong trace of blues, especially in the first two tracks, like dance, in the latter part... It's a very sweet conjunction (we could also say a very tasty medley!) of genres that, for every song, for every melody and for every note, perfectly and masterfully build the body of the work; the solid voice of Linda Perry leads unchallenged to talk about various subjects: sex, drugs, anger, regret, despair... but beware, don't be too influenced by the words: it's a shout, remember! And you have to take it as such.

Johnny Winter - Johnny Winter And (1970)

Year: September 1970 (CD ????)
Label: Columbia Records (Austria), COL 472769-2
Style: Blues Rock, Hard Rock
Country: Beaumont, Texas, U.S. (February 23, 1944 - July 16, 2014)

Johnny Winter And... Rick Derringer (vocals, guitar), Randy Jo Hobbs (vocals, bass), Randy Zehringer (drums).

After two late-'60s albums on Columbia, Johnny Winter hit his stride in 1970 working with Rick Derringer and the McCoys, now recruited as his sidemen and collaborators (and proving with just about every note here how far they'd gotten past "Hang on Sloopy"). In place of the bluesy focus on his first two albums, Winter extended himself into more of a rock-oriented mode here, in both his singing and his selection of material. This was hard rock with a blues edge, and had a certain commercial smoothness lacking in his earlier work. Derringer's presence on guitar and as a songwriter saw to it that Winter's blues virtuosity was balanced by perfectly placed guitar hooks, and the two guitarists complemented each other perfectly throughout as well. There wasn't a weak moment anywhere on the record, and if Johnny Winter And wasn't a huge commercial success, it was mostly because of the huge amount of competition at the time from other, equally inspired players, that kept numbers like the Winter originals "Prodigal Son" and "Guess I'll Go Away" as well as Derringer co-authored pieces such as "Look Up" from having the impact they should have had on FM radio.

Edgar Winter - Edgar Winter's White Trash (1971)

Year: 1971 (CD 1989)
Label: Epic Records (US), EK 30512
Style: Blues Rock, Rock and Roll, Funk, Gospel
Country: Beaumont, Texas, U.S. (December 28, 1946)
Time: 43:30
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 286 Mb

A quite brilliant album and no mistake and maybe the man’s most beloved of all his album releases that combines a heady mixture of rock, R&B, gospel and funk. When this album first appeared in 1971 it blew a breath of fresh air through the album releases of the time. Highlights include a smattering of gospel with Fly Away (featuring a full vocal chorus that adds the uplifting spirit of the track) and Save the Planet (a real rabble rousing song that demands that you jump off your chair and clap your hands in time to the words) on one side of the coin along with chart material such as the lower end of the Top 40 cut, Keep Playin’ That Rock and Roll while not forgetting the lovely Dying to Live that includes some fine piano work and pokes an effective dig at Vietnam, the cause celebre of the time.
In terms of audiophile reproduction, this track is a good example of the nature of the pressing which is effectively quiet without any blurring in the upper mids or smudging of the bass. There is a tremendous dynamic range in evidence here. Winter’s piano is accurate and tonally solid while Winter’s own vocal delivery is passionate, fervent but lusty in terms of the complexity that can be heard through those rasping vocal chords of his.
If there is one overarching personality of this album that links each track together, it is its joyous nature and sense of never-ending rhythm, a forward motion that also creates a perfect sense of escapism. I will bet that, before long, once you’ve learned a few lines of your own, you won’t be able to resist in singing along to much of this disc yourself.

Grateful Dead - Aoxomoxoa [HDCD 4 bonus tracks] (1969)

♪ Year: June 20, 1969 (CD 2003)
♪ Label: Rhino Records (Germany), 8122-74394-2
♪ Style: Psychedelic Rock, Acid Rock
♪ Country: Palo Alto, California, U.S.
♪ Time: 79:24
♪ Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
♪ Size: 503 Mb

This is a mildly surprising collection of music, essentially because it is so mellowed. The tunes are soft and gentle, the lyrics graciously decipherable, the vocals hesitant and wavering. There is a remarkable lack of harshly inflected rhythms and scalding guitar, for which the Dead have been so justly famed. Instead, Axoxomoxa is a wider application of the ideas we saw in Anthem of The Sun: long, dreamy ballads, occasionally interspersed with rock passages, but more often content to float their own ethereal way. Very different, a bit sadly, from the driving power of the first album. But this third one is a delight. It's filled with surreal (What's Become Of The Baby) and romantic visions (Mountains Of The Moon), rural whimsy and funk, and some great old blues (Dupree's Diamond Blues and Cosmic Charlie).
Somehow, the Grateful Dead have done the impossible. They've kept their standards in the face of white-hot pressures to change. Not only have they remained an intact musical unit, they've improved their skills and sharpened and adjusted their technique, all of which indicates that they have retained their sanity. I find that pretty amazing.
Heavily in debt, much of it from back taxes, seeing their community fall down around them, the Dead have willingly and happily played innumerable benefits and free concerts in the park (Golden Gate), because they love the music. When a human being takes this course of action, when he faces and withstands the demands to mold himself to the social main-current, concentrating only on the realization of his constructive ideas, you call him by one word: artist. The Dead are artists. They've ignored packaging trends, preferring to wrap their albums simply, without folding covers and other little goodies. They've made no media appearances, save for three, which I can remember: a KPIX special on the Haight, some two years ago; an Irving Penn photographic essay, titled "The Incredibles," in Look; and about 10 seconds on a CBS documentary of Bill Graham. The Grateful Dead are considered, very simply, poor commercial material and a sight from which the eyes of America's children must somehow be shielded.

Style: Vocal, Pop, Oldies

The Ronettes were an American girl group from Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York City. The group consisted of the lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. They had sung together since they were teenagers, then known as "The Darling Sisters". Signed first by Colpix Records in 1961, they moved to Phil Spector's Philles Records in March 1963 and changed their name to "The Ronettes".
The Ronettes placed nine songs on the Billboard Hot 100, six of which became Top 40 hits. Among their hit songs are "Be My Baby", which peaked at No. 2, their only contemporary top 10 hit, "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" and "Walking in the Rain". In 1964, the group released their only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. That year, the Rolling Stones were their opening act when they toured the UK. The Ronettes opened for the Beatles on their 1966 US tour, becoming the only girl group to tour with them, before splitting up in 1967. In the 1970s, the group was briefly revived as Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes. Veronica Bennett married Phil Spector in 1968.
Their song "Be My Baby" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Rolling Stone ranked their album Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica No. 422 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Ronettes were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. The group also holds the record for the longest gap between top-ten hits in Billboard history, just over 58 years.

Garrett Lund - Almost Grown (1975)

Year: 1975 (CD 2001)
Label: World In Sound (Germany), WIS 1006
Style: Acid Rock, Psychedelic Rock
Country: U.S.
Time: 52:20
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 546 Mb

Garrath Lund was part of the Caretakers, a band which opened before the great psychrock bands of that time. He recorded this album but no label was interested. Releasing it privately, in 1975, it sold with the help of radio promotion 2000 copies in less than two weeks, but still there was no label to release it officially. So after 26 years this finally is the first release.
The album can be compared to the kind of albums of singer-songwriters with a deeper concentration to the music with electric arrangements, far away from other influences and with a time taken to develop, like what John Saint Field or so did, but here with a west coast direction, and with some attention to some sweet acidic development of the electric guitar, backed by a rock band.
The voice goes from normal to higher notes, with emotional calm perspectives with closed eyes. "Serene" has a fine production of keyboards (mellotron and electric piano by Angie Gudino).

Best Of – Volume I is the first greatest hits album by American hard rock band Van Halen.
The album does not contain any songs from the band's 1982 album Diver Down. Best Of – Volume I also features "Humans Being", the band's contribution to the Twister soundtrack. The two newly recorded songs, "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise Magic", at the end of the album are with original lead vocalist David Lee Roth. These two songs were released as singles to promote this compilation. They are also the last songs recorded and released by the original Van Halen lineup of Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Roth and Michael Anthony. Some demos recorded by the original lineup in 2000 would later be re-recorded by the Van Halen brothers, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Roth for A Different Kind of Truth, released in 2012. Anthony did not play with Van Halen again following the band's 2004 tour. He was replaced by Eddie's son Wolfgang.
