Style: Vocal, Pop, Oldies
Country: New York City, U.S.
Time: 77:59

The Ronettes were an American girl group from Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York City. The group consisted of the lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), her older sister Estelle Bennett, and their cousin Nedra Talley. They had sung together since they were teenagers, then known as "The Darling Sisters". Signed first by Colpix Records in 1961, they moved to Phil Spector's Philles Records in March 1963 and changed their name to "The Ronettes".
The Ronettes placed nine songs on the Billboard Hot 100, six of which became Top 40 hits. Among their hit songs are "Be My Baby", which peaked at No. 2, their only contemporary top 10 hit, "Baby, I Love You", "(The Best Part of) Breakin' Up" and "Walking in the Rain". In 1964, the group released their only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. That year, the Rolling Stones were their opening act when they toured the UK. The Ronettes opened for the Beatles on their 1966 US tour, becoming the only girl group to tour with them, before splitting up in 1967. In the 1970s, the group was briefly revived as Ronnie Spector and the Ronettes. Veronica Bennett married Phil Spector in 1968.
Their song "Be My Baby" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Rolling Stone ranked their album Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica No. 422 on its list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Ronettes were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. The group also holds the record for the longest gap between top-ten hits in Billboard history, just over 58 years.

The Carpenters - Singles 1969-1981 [Japanese Ed. SHM-CD] (2000)

Year: May 23, 2000 (CD Jun 20, 2012)
Label: Universal Music (Japan), UICY-25212
Style: Soft Rock, Pop, Vocal
Country: Downey, California, U.S.
Time: 71:41
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 435 Mb

The Carpenters were an American musical duo composed of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter, known for their distinctive close harmonies and soft rock sound. They achieved remarkable commercial success in the 1970s, with their first single, "Close to You," reaching number one on the charts in 1970. Over their career, they amassed twenty Top 40 hits, including popular songs like "We've Only Just Begun," "Top of the World," and "Please Mr. Postman." Their music often featured compositions by prominent songwriters of the era, such as Carole King and Paul Williams.
The duo's clean image and mellow style contrasted with the more rebellious rock music of the time, yet they maintained a dedicated fan base. Their influence extended beyond music, with a television variety show, "Make Your Own Kind of Music," contributing to their popularity. Tragically, Karen Carpenter passed away in 1983 due to complications from anorexia, which she had struggled with for years. Despite this, the Carpenters' music continues to resonate, with many of their albums still selling well into the 21st century and a variety of compilation albums celebrating their legacy.
During their career, the Carpenters amassed twenty Top 40 hits; only one, “Touch Me When We’re Dancing,” charted outside of the 1970’s, in 1981. They started their career with immediate success as their first single, “Close to You,” hit number one in the summer of 1970, holding the top spot for four weeks and staying on the charts for fifteen. Only three months later, “We’ve Only Just Begun” held second place on the charts for four weeks. The group would have two more number-one hits: “Top of the World” in 1973 and “Please Mr. Postman” the following year. The success of the latter single, a 1961 hit for the Marvelettes and later for the Beatles, followed the success of the Carpenters’ 1973 album Now and Then, the second side of which consisted of a medley of sound-alike covers of early rock-and-roll hits, packaged in the form of an oldies radio show.

Deke Leonard (Man) - Kamikaze (1974)

Year: 1974 (CD 2015)
Label: Esoteric Recordings (UK), ECLEC 2480
Style: Rock, Progressive Rock, Country Rock
Country: Llanelli, South Wales (18 December 1944 – 31 January 2017)
Time: 67:11
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 425 Mb

Having released his debut solo album Iceberg in 1973, Deke Leonard formed a band of the same name to tour it. Original bassist Paul Burton was replaced by Martin Ace by the time Kamikaze was recorded, in typical fashion in between live dates promoting the first album. Another of Deke’s narratives describes the cover shoot. The tale involves searching for big cats, Jumbo jets, and being drenched to achieve the desired photographic intent, and so another chapter in Deke’s life on the road is written…
This record, not surprisingly, sounds more like a band than Iceberg, although oddly it is not as immediate as its predecessor. Kamikaze again features Deke’s penchant for good time rockers, kicking off with Jay Hawk Special. The addition of fiddle player Byron Berline on the initially bluesy Sharpened Claws playing a rumbustious jig’n’reel in the second half of the song lends it a downhome countrified feel, and as the song ends Byron’s fiddle carries on, a lone hoedown after everyone has gone home.
Deke’s vocal on the Quo-like rocker In Search Of Sarah And Twenty Six Horses bears an uncanny resemblance to Noddy Holder, something I had not considered before, but the resemblance is definitely there. You would think from the title that this song was inspired by a CS&N styled drug-fuelled haze, but the straight ahead nature of the music puts paid to that theory. Deke explains further in a convoluted tale involving a girl called Sarah Cheesewright and a book entitled Portrait Of The Artist And 26 Horses, another example of his way with a story. You’ll just have to buy the CD to find out more!

Deke Leonard (Man) - Iceberg (1973)

Year: 1973 (CD 2015)
Label: Esoteric Recordings (UK), ECLEC 2479
Style: Rock, Pub Rock, Progressive Rock
Country: Llanelli, South Wales (18 December 1944 – 31 January 2017)
Time: 73:23
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 483 Mb

Roger Arnold "Deke" Leonard (18 December 1944 – 31 January 2017) was a Welsh rock musician, "serving a life sentence in the music business". Best known as a member of the progressive rock band Man, which he joined and left several times, and for fronting his own rock and roll band Iceberg, which he formed and disbanded several times, he was also an author, raconteur and television panelist.
Leonard was born in Llanelli, South Wales. He formed his first band, Lucifer and the Corncrackers, with Mike Rees (vocals), Geoff Griffiths (drums) and Clive "Wes" Reynolds (bass), in 1962, whilst still at Llanelli Grammar School, taking his stage name from "Deke" Rivers, the character played by Elvis Presley in his second film Loving You. Leonard left school to work for a building contractor, which he left to avoid being fired, so became a full-time musician.
The Corncrackers ran their own club, the "L" Club, featuring themselves and other local musicians, whilst also playing support to acts such as Johnny Kidd & The Pirates and The Hollies at a rival venue. When Rees left they continued as a trio; Keith Hodge then replaced Griffiths, but when Reynolds left to join the South Wales band The Jets, The Corncrackers broke up.
Leonard also joined The Jets, on keyboards, but preferred playing guitar, so reformed The Corncrackers with additional guitarist Brian Breeze, before replacing Vic Oakley as bass player in The Blackjacks, with whom he toured US bases in Europe. On his return, he rejoined The Jets, with Tony "Plum" Hollis on vocals, Martin Ace (bass) and Beau Adams (drums). There were other bands named The Jets on the circuit, so they changed their name to The Smokeless Zone and took residencies in Germany, including one at Hamburg's Top Ten Club where Tony Sheridan played with them. Adams was replaced by Terry Williams, but after more European residencies, they disbanded.
When Breeze left the Corncrackers, Leonard rejoined, playing London residences and recording demos for EMI & CBS. When Hodge left, Terry Williams joined on drums and Martin Ace as a multi-instrumentalist. The band changed its style to psychedelia and its name to Dream; not sure what a "freak-out" was, they invented their own with shaving foam and confetti.
In November 1968, Leonard joined The Bystanders, to replace Vic Oakley (again), just as the band changed their musical direction, from close harmony pop to a psychedelic/American west coast style, and their name to Man.

Peter, Paul And Mary - In The Wind [Hybrid SACD. Stereo. Audio Fidelity] (1963)

Year: October 1963 (CD 2014)
Label: Audio Fidelity (US), AFZ 181
Style: Folk, Pop, Oldies
Country: New York City, U.S.
Time: 37:58
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 226 Mb

In the 1960s, the most creatively fertile grounds in America would have to be Greenwich Village, a neighborhood in west Manhattan. It could be be argued that the counterculture of the 60s arose from Greenwich Village, as did many of the decades biggest musical acts, one of the most talented being Bob Dylan.
1963, however, was a very different year than 1965, and a guy like Dylan pretty much had no chance of making a pop crossover. Instead, his songs found their way to the mainstream with Peter, Paul and Mary, a group of Greenwich Village folkies who were formed by manager Albert Grossman in 1961. This group cut their teeth doing clean-cut folk music with sparse acoustic production and pristine harmonies, and often, their music could be quite beautiful. This can be seen on some of the traditional folk covers that appear on this album, like the lullaby "Hush-A-Bye", or the religious ballad "All My Trials". Admittedly, not all of the songs on here work for me, like "Long Chain On" or "Rocky Road", both of which I found to be largely forgettable. For the most part, I would say that this album averages out to a nice, pleasant experience that I probably won't return to. It can certainly be very pretty, and harmonies of all three are very pleasing to the ear, but it' just not as engaging as some of the other folk music that was coming of Greenwich Village. Speaking of which, the main story on this album, as least for me, would have to be the Dylan covers. The weakest of the three would be their take on "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", mainly because the scornful, passive-aggressive lyrics work best when they're coming from just one person (preferably Dylan himself), as opposed to three. On the other hand, their cover of "Blowin' in the Wind" is genuinely beautiful cover, one that absolutely does the original justice. Peter, Paul and Mary famously performed that song at the same March on Washington where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his "I Have A Dream" speech, and I think that it was a powerful moment, a highlight of their careers.
Ultimately, though, it couldn't last. Peter, Paul and Mary were old school folkies, musically much closer to the Kingston Trio than the Byrds. When Bob Dylan went electric at the Newport Folk Festival, Peter Yarrow was in the audience, holding his head in dismay. The group had one last hit in 1969, the John Denver-penned "Leaving on a Jet Plane", and then that was it. Their brand of pristine folk music had it's moment, but it passed. Still, they'll always have that cover of "Blowin' in the Wind".

Footsteps 2 is British singer-songwriter Chris de Burgh's nineteenth album. It was released in Germany, Switzerland and Austria on 14 October 2011, and in the UK and Ireland on 17 October 2011.
Footsteps 2 follows the concept with that of Footsteps, creating cover versions of the songs which have inspired him over the years, along with a few new compositions.
As de Burgh said upon releasing Footsteps, "Listening to the great songwriters was the inspiration for me to try and become a good songwriter myself," he says. "I’m talking about the likes of Lennon & McCartney and Bob Dylan; people as good as that just don’t seem to exist any more. I learned my trade, my craft, almost at the feet of the Great Masters. And that is my musical journey. Those songs are my footsteps."
This album peaked at number 10 in the German album chart, and reached number 38 in the UK Albums Chart.

The album peaked at number 30 in the UK and spent 16 weeks on the chart. In the week beginning 7 February 1983, the album went to the top of the album charts in the then West Germany. In Canada the album spent 36 weeks in the Top 100.
The album was spearheaded by the U.S. top 40 hit, "Don't Pay the Ferryman", an upbeat, mythology-tinged pop rock song that evokes images of the Grim Reaper, which also became his first UK hit single, reaching number 48.
Another song from the album which has become a de Burgh fan-favourite is "Borderline", the story of a conscientious objector who chooses to flee with his lover than be drafted for military service. A staple of de Burgh's live act, the song's story was continued in 1986's "Say Goodbye to It All" from the later album Into the Light.
Drums on the album were played by Steve Negus of the Canadian progressive rock band Saga.
Some of the guest vocalists were Anthony Head, Diane Davison (Chris de Burgh's wife) and Miriam Stockley (who also collaborated with Mike Oldfield on the album The Millennium Bell (1999).

The latter half of the title echoes that of De Burgh's 1975 album Spanish Train and Other Stories. For the launch of the album, de Burgh signed an exclusive deal with supermarket giant Asda for the physical release in the UK, and worked with digital companies AWAL and Topspin Media to distribute it digitally around the globe.

Dusty Springfield - A Girl Called Dusty [8 bonus tracks] (1964)

Year: 17 April 1964 (CD 1997)
Label: Mercury Records (Germany), 534 520-2
Style: Oldies, Pop
Country: London, England (16 April 1939 - 2 March 1999)
Time: 56:31
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 349 Mb

Dusty Springfield had been a member of the girl group The Lana Sisters from 1958 to 1960, and the folk-pop trio The Springfields from 1960 to 1963 (in the latter case with her brother Tom Springfield). While on tour in the US in the early 1960s she was exposed to soul music, which was to have a profound impact on her subsequent life and career. Although The Springfields were moderately successful, with songs such as "Island of Dreams", "Bambino" and "Silver Threads And Golden Needles" (a No. 16 US country hit), their style of music limited the wide range of material that Dusty Springfield wanted to sing. Therefore, in 1963, Springfield decided to begin a career as a solo singer.
Her first single, "I Only Want to Be with You", was actually recorded while still a member of The Springfields, and was released one week after their final concert. The song was a success in both Britain and the US and led to the recording of A Girl Called Dusty which was released in 1964. The album contained a mix of mostly straightforward pop songs and a few Motown influenced numbers, such as "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" and "Mockingbird". It also marked Springfield's first collaboration with well-known songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David, as well as Gerry Goffin and Carole King, whose songs Springfield continued to record for the rest of her career.
At the time, A Girl Called Dusty was not released to the US market. Instead, Philips released a compilation of singles and tracks recorded for the album as Stay Awhile/I Only Want To Be With You. It was named after her first two singles, which had been Top 20 hits in the US. Later in 1964, Philips released Dusty, a second version of A Girl Called Dusty with a different track listing and different tracks.
In January 1994, while recording her album, A Very Fine Love, in Nashville, Springfield began to feel ill. When she returned to England a few months later, her physicians diagnosed her with breast cancer. She received months of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and the cancer was found to be in remission. In 1995, in apparent good health, she set about to promote the album, which was released that year. By mid-1996, the cancer had returned, and despite vigorous treatments, Springfield died on 2 March 1999, aged 59, in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
Springfield's funeral service was attended by hundreds of fans and people from the music business, including Elvis Costello, Lulu, and the Pet Shop Boys.

Chris de Burgh - Into The Light (1986)

Year: 27 May 1986 (CD 1986)
Label: A&M Records (West Germany), 395 121-2
Style: Pop, Soft Rock
Country: U.S. / U.K. / Santa Fe Province, Argentina (15 October 1948)
Time: 50:32
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 310 Mb

Charts: UK #2, AUS #14, AUT #19, CAN #10, GER #2, IRE #1, NL #9, NOR #1, SWI #2, US #25. US: Gold; UK, GER & CAN: 2x Platinum.
Following the success of its lead single "The Lady in Red", which topped the UK Singles Chart and reached number three in the United States, the album peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart, becoming de Burgh's first studio album to enter the top ten. "Fatal Hesitation" was a UK number 44 hit, spending four weeks on the chart.
"Say Goodbye to It All" was a continuation of the song "Borderline" from 1982's The Getaway. Both songs frequently appear in de Burgh's concerts and compilation albums. The song "For Rosanna" is dedicated to de Burgh's then two-year-old daughter Rosanna.
Dennis Hunt of the Los Angeles Times wrote, "There's really nothing else as schmaltzy as 'The Lady in Red' on his album. Into the Light includes some gutsy, fairly absorbing pop-rock — some not what you'd expect from 'the Irish Barry Manilow.'"

Supertramp - Free As A Bird (1987)

Year: 23 October 1987 (CD 1987)
Label: A&M Records (Germany), 395181-2
Style: Pop, Soft Rock
Country: London, England
Time: 44:11
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 269 Mb

The album was a turn of direction of sorts, with most of the songs stepping back from their progressive rock sound, employing synthesised dance beats and rhythms. Chief songwriter Rick Davies later recalled, "Free as a Bird was an experiment to try and be modern and build it up with computers and drum machines and have people come in one by one, which makes you lose the band spirit a little bit."[4] In the liner notes to the 2005 compilation Retrospectacle, Davies said, "Each time we went in, we would try to give it something a bit different. Free as a Bird was a lot more machine-based than anything we'd done before. That was good and bad, but it had some interesting songs on it."
Free as a Bird was the first Supertramp album to feature contributions from guitarist/vocalist Mark Hart. He would later become a full-fledged member of the group, as would trumpet player Lee Thornburg.
The group disbanded after the tour in support of the album and would not reconvene until 1997. They did so without bassist Dougie Thomson.
