It is the first Dio album to feature former Rough Cutt keyboardist Claude Schnell. It became the band's highest-charting album in both the UK and the U.S., reaching number 4 and number 23, respectively (Sacred Heart would later reach number 4 in the UK as well).
It was certified gold (500,000 units sold) by the RIAA on September 12, 1984, and was the first Dio album to be certified platinum, achieving the feat on February 3, 1987. In the UK, it attained Silver certification (60,000 units sold) by the British Phonographic Industry, achieving this in January 1986, at the same time as Holy Diver. To date, these are the only two Dio albums to be certified at least platinum.

Foghat - Foghat (Rock 'n' Roll) (1973)

Foghat is the second album, and the second self-titled album, by the English rock band Foghat, released in March 1973. It is generally known by fans as Rock 'n' Roll, because of its cover picture depicting a rock and bread roll.
Formed in 1971 when Lonesome Dave Peverett & Roger Earl left the British blues-rock band, Savoy Brown, Foghat has earned eight Gold records, one Platinum record and one Double-Platinum record.  And they continue to release new music every few years. They have never stopped touring and recording although there have been several ups and downs and changes over the years.  They sadly lost Lonesome Dave Peverett in 2000 and Rod Price in 2005, but Roger Earl kept banging & kicking to keep Foghat's musical legacy going.
According to a recent review "The '70s called...but there is no way in hell we are giving Foghat back to them. The iconic band from the past is rocking just as hard as they did decades ago, if not more! Foghat's thunderous blend of blues, boogie and butt-kickin' rock 'n' roll are shaking walls and fans everywhere. There is so much talent in this band it is ridiculous.  Lead vocalist/lead guitarist Scott Holt played with Buddy Guy for over 10 years, and lead/slide guitarist Bryan Bassett played with Wild Cherry and Molly Hatchet."  Bass player Craig Macgregor who had been with the band since the '70s, unfortunately became ill in 2015 and was unable to play, and we sadly lost him in February of 2018.  Craig had recommended the very talented & personable Rodney O'Quinn as a 'fill-in' who came to Foghat via the Pat Travers band where he proved he knew how to lay down a solid groove. O'Quinn viewed MacGregor as a mentor and is a great permanent addition to the band.  And on drums, of course, is the man we must thank for keeping Foghat going...founding member Roger Earl, who's positive attitude and solid drumming style and pure joy of playing has been an inspiration to all."
If Foghat had only given us 'Slow Ride', the band's place in rock history would be secure.  But the band is so much more than that. As stated by Roger Earl, "we are still a 'work in progress', writing and recording and plan to be until the day we depart this earth".
**We sadly lost our brother, friend and Foghat member Craig MacGregor, who passed away on February 9th, 2018. RIP Mac. We miss you, brother.**

To date, since leaving Black Sabbath (the first time) in 1980, Bill Ward has released precisely two full solo albums (plus the single “Straws”).   This is especially unfortunate, since both solo albums are particularly fine pieces of work.  The finest and most noteworthy was his first, Ward One: Along the Way, released a decade after his Sabbath departure.  A long time in the making doesn’t begin to sum it up.
Aside from some production issues (this album could use a nice, clear remix) this is among the best solo products issued by any ex-member of Black Sabbath, including Dio and Ozzy.  It has its Sabbathesque moments (a few crushing guitar chords, pounding drums, peacenik lyrics) but it truly is an animal of its own.   Bill Ward received a co-writing credit on every original Black Sabbath song, and it’s clear why.  The man has a vivid imagination, creating swirling soundscapes of music.  There is nothing here that is outright commercial, nothing straightforward, everything is just slightly fucked up.  I think most likely it was Bill that gave Black Sabbath its oddball experimental edge in the early days.  An edge they have lost now that they have given him the boot.
The obvious standout track is “Bombers (Can Open Bomb Bays)”, the thunderous single featuring none other than Ozzy himself on lead vocals.  But even that is strange and offputting, as the pitch of Ozzy’s voice is manipulated in the mix, giving him an otherworldly sound at times.

Lita Ford with Ozzy Osbourne - Close My Eyes Forever [Single] (1989)

“Close My Eyes Forever,” the powerful duet between Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne released in 1989, gave each artist their first Top 10 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the wake of Ozzy’s passing on Tuesday (July 22nd), Ford said that the metal icon changed her life.
Ford checked in with SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk the day after Ozzy’s death (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), telling the host, “He changed my life, from the time I was 13 years old going to [a] Black Sabbath concert. That was it. That was the day and the night the light bulb went off over my head, and I just thought, ‘I have to do this. This is what I wanna do…. And so that night I came out of there, and I knew what I was gonna do with my future.”
As for the hit duet, Ford noted, “It’s just really ironic that I got to have a Top 10 hit single with Ozzy. And I have to say it was one of the highlights of my life. And we will all miss him, but his music will live on. And that’s what we have to do, is just focus on the music and all the good things that he’s left everybody.”
She added, “And I’m sure he would’ve probably been gone a long time ago if not for [his wife and manager] Sharon. I mean, Sharon was the best, and she took good care of Ozzy, and so she kept him going and she made him into the superstar that he is today.”
Just weeks prior to his passing, Ozzy had declared that “Close My Eyes Forever” was the best duet he had ever recorded.
At her concert at KK’s Steel Mill in Wolverhampton, England, on Wednesday, Ford dedicated “Close My Eyes Forever” to Ozzy, asking fans to hold their phone lights up in honor of the metal legend.

The first track, 'Stand Up and Shout', is reminiscent of 'Turn Up the Night' from Sabbath's 'Mob Rules'. Fast, hard-hitting and a great introduction. I reall enjoy this one.
Then comes the title track. Listening to it now, properly and with my full attention (and great headphones!), I realise that it's actually a good track. I still don't really feel anything with it, but I certainly enjoy it more than I thought. It still feels like a weak point of the album to me. I imagine hearing it 40 years ago upon release would have had a greater impact.
'Gypsy' - this is more like it. Lovely soaring riffs above heavy, punchy riffs - with some banshee-like vocals from Dio.
Some more fantastic vocals on 'Caught in the Middle', and I love the driving bass throughout. The chorus on this track is a highlight of the album for me. The way the guitars climb, then repeat with Dio giving it his all over the top makes the hairs stand up on my arms.
 'Don't Talk to Strangers' - the intro to this reminded me of Tony Iommi's thinking behind 'Master of Reality'. By putting some quieter songs on the album, it made the heavier tracks feel heavier. I felt that on this song thanks to the intro. Not only that, but it makes for a nice respite between the metal. When the song kicks in, it makes me think of Iron Maiden. (I should mention I'm not into Maiden, I only know their hits. It feels like they've based all their songs off this track!).
'Straight Through the Heart' - monstrous intro! That riff is absolutely killer and the vocals are top-notch.
Another moment of rest during the intro of 'Invisible'. At first this one fools you into thinking a cheesy 80s ballad is coming, but that's not the case. The riffs are back, and stomping their way through the stories Dio sings to us here.
 'Rainbow in the Dark' - I see this is one of Dio's most famous tracks, and I can understand why! The keys on the intro / chorus feel very 80s and that makes me think I've heard it before, but it's such a generic 80s sound it could have been from any song from the decade. I like it though, it's not over-the-top and only dates the song slightly. Riff-wise, I love this and it easily features one of Dios best vocals on the album.
I feel like 'Shame on the Night' works really well as an album-closer. The vocals are ridiculously strong on this one, the instrumental break and breakdown are excellent and the epic backing vocals towards the outro give it a medievel feeling.

Before you can even digest or vomit back up Run With The Pack (or "Run With The Night", as lameass North Carolina DJ "Cosmo" so eloquently called it that time I heard him play "Young Blood" - right before he declared it to be a "great song" off of a "great album." Lameass.), the "talentless boys of rock 'n' roll" are back to shove more poorly-written dreck down your listening ear.
I'll give 'em this though: even though all these melodies sound like they were written in about two minutes, most of them are amazingly catchy. The title track, "Morning Sun," "Too Bad," "Everything I Need," "Peace Of Mind" - all disgustingly simple, but not self-parodic like on the last album. It sounds, rather, like a postmodern lo-fi college band imitating Bad Company. It's not bombastic (except for a couple of really crappy numbers); it's just a bunch of poorly-arranged songs. I like 'em! It's actually a pretty good record, though definitely not worthy of classic rock radio play. If you see it in a dollar bin, get it. It's at least an interesting, semi-unpredictable record. A cover of "Valerie, Valerah?" A seven-minute groove jam? Wow. Bad Company stretches out and tries something new. Who knows how far this'll go? Embarrassing. And the cover of "Young Blood" is unlistenable.

Susan Kay Quatro (born June 3, 1950) is an American singer, bass guitarist, songwriter, and actress. In the 1970s, she scored a string of singles that found success in Europe and Australia, with both "Can the Can" (1973) and "Devil Gate Drive" (1974) reaching number one in several countries.
Quatro was born and raised in Detroit. Her father, Art, was a semiprofessional musician and worked at General Motors. Her paternal grandfather was an Italian immigrant to the U.S. and her mother, Helen, was Hungarian and she died in 1992. Her family name of "Quattrocchi" ("four eyes", meaning "bespectacled") was shortened to Quatro. Quatro's family was living in Detroit when she was born. She has three sisters, a brother (Michael Quatro), and one older half-sister. Her parents fostered several other children while she was growing up. Quatro grew up to be an "extrovert but solitary," according to Philip Norman of The Sunday Times, and she only became close to her mother after leaving the US for Britain.

Saxon - Denim And Leather (1981)

Produced by Nigel Thomas, Denim and Leather is less abrasive than the previous albums but still sonic meat and potatoes. It’s topped and tailed with two of the greatest songs Saxon would ever produce. Continuing their penchant for offbeat lyrical subjects and songs about forms of transport, opening track Princess of the Night tells the tale of a steam train delivering mail through ice and snow. (You’ll have to suspend your disbelief at a British train actually running during such inclement weather). It’s a darting, precision rocker with a riff you can’t believe no-one thought of before and a joyously bluesy guitar solo from Paul Quinn. Closing track Denim and Leather is a genuine and charming tribute to the metal fans that put Saxon on the map, highlighting the band’s down-to-earth attitude. It’s a stomping anthem with a huge and irresistible chorus and one of the most memorable opening lines in metal history: “Where were you in ’79 when the dam began to burst?”
After the superb opening the first side is a mixed-bag. Never Surrender is vintage Saxon and follows Princess of the Night in bruising style but the quality starts to trail off. Rough and Ready is a stodgily unconvincing hard-man boast and Play it Loud is a flat stab at a party anthem. Side 2 immediately gets the album back on track with And the Bands Played On, another of the album’s outstanding victories. Despite its musical similarity to 747 (Strangers in the Night) it has its own unique identity and appeal: a feel-good ode to the inaugural Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington. As with the title track, Saxon’s everyman charm works wonders: rather than singing about how amazing their own performance was, they celebrate the festival itself, the attending horde and name-check other bands on the bill. It’s got simple, memorable guitar riffs and Biff Byford’s breathless delivery is a joy “Will it rain, will it snow, will it shine? We don’t know” and it’s one of those classics you never tire of hearing. Midnight Rider continues the musical lap of honour, recounting the band’s early tours of the States with the rolling tempo and gear-changing chords perfectly capturing the excitement of the road trip. The album’s most ripping number, the apocalyptic Fire in the Sky, and the triumphant title-track finish the album on a high.
Along with Wheels of Steel and Strong Arm of the Law, Denim and Leather is often thought of as the third in Saxon’s “classic trilogy”. As is often the case with trilogies, the final part is the weakest of the three but it’s still a must-hear with some of the band’s most accomplished songwriting and the guitar duo of Graham Oliver/Paul Quinn at a lively peak. The highlights are magnificent metal classics and far outweighs any filler to elevate the album to star status. It was their second highest charting album in the UK so Saxon’s position at the head of the NWOBHM pack remained secure and just two years on from their debut release they already had a discography and a following worthy of celebration. Like Bananas, the album received generally positive reviews from critics and fans. The album peaked on Billboard's US Top Independent Albums chart at position No. 43. In the US, the album sold 2500 copies during the first week. In the UK, the album sold 3500 copies during the first week and 1200 copies during the week after. It also made the top 20 in several European charts. The title track "Rapture of the Deep" was released as a promo single in 2005. It is the fourth studio album from Deep Purple since Steve Morse joined the band in 1994 and the second to feature veteran keyboardist Don Airey. The album was produced by Michael Bradford who also produced the band's previous release, Bananas.
The album's title relates to an alternative name for the nitrogen narcosis psychological condition capable of affecting deep sea divers. Of the title, bassist Roger Glover said: "I like it because it's got opposites, a duality there, and I'm always fond of that. If you're a scuba diver and you dive down below three atmospheres or 110, 120 feet, something like that, you have excess nitrogen in your blood, and it's called nitrogen narcosis. It's a known danger. And what it does to you, is it makes you really happy, like being drunk. The danger is you're in rapture, you're in a state of pure joy and bliss and at one with the world, and you love being down there and you want to be part of it, so you take your mask off and die."

The cover of the Coasters single "Young Blood" peaked at No. 20. The album also spawned rock radio classics "Silver, Blue & Gold", "Live for the Music", and the title track. "Silver, Blue & Gold" was never released as a single, but is one of the band's most popular compositions.
Cash Box said of "Do Right by Your Woman" that it "is an acoustic number, with some twelve-string work" and that "the harmonies are excellent, at times reminiscent of CSNY, and a low-down harmonical fill."
Classic Rock History critic Janey Roberts rated the title track as Bad Company's greatest song, saying that its energy "just simply defines what Bad Company was all about" and praising the "great intros" and "pulsating verses that built up to superman style choruses." Classic Rock critic Malcolm Dome rated it as Bad Company's 6th best song, praising its "panache and subtlety."
The album was remastered and re-released in 1994. The vinyl album had a shiny, silver cover, but CD versions feature a simple, light grey cover. The original album cover also came as a gatefold, with a photo of the band inside, sitting around a couch near a television tuned in to a Bugs Bunny cartoon.

It was a major comeback for the band, featuring the hits "Thunderstruck", "Are You Ready" and "Moneytalks". This is the only studio album to feature Welsh drummer Chris Slade, who was the drummer for AC/DC from 1989 to his dismissal in 1994.
Critical commentary for the album was generally mixed, with Alex Henderson of AllMusic complimenting Brian Johnson and Angus Young, while John Mendelsohn from Rolling Stone criticises its similarity to the band's past works. The album reached number 2 on the US Billboard 200 and number 4 on the UK Albums Chart, a smash commercial success that returned the band to a peak equivalent to that of their late 1970s and early 1980s popularity. The album earned multi-platinum certifications in Australia, Canada, Germany, Switzerland and the US. To support The Razors Edge, the band undertook the Razors Edge World Tour, starting in November 1990.

Released in 1984, Powerslave is Iron Maiden’s fifth studio release and vocalist Bruce Dickinson’s third outing with the band. While opinions will differ, Powerslave is arguably the strongest, early-80s, release for Maiden as The Number Of The Beast and Piece Of Mind both have exceptional songs but aren’t quite the cohesive album experience that Powerslave is. If nothing else, Powerslave is the embodiment of the heavy metal genre featuring intricate compositions and powerful performances that marked a high point in the band’s career, both in terms of their musical evolution and global popularity.
As is always the case with Iron Maiden, the album artwork is exquisite. Of course, with a keen interest in Ancient Egypt, I may be a little biased, but Powerslave doesn’t disappoint in that regard for it is as bold as the music contained within. However, when you get down to the sonic elements of Maiden’s records, while the production and overall mix are generally superb, the mastering of their albums, particularly the remastered releases, has been a point of contention amongst fans.

Shug has been bigging this up around the rock press as his return to rock, the album his fans have been wanting him to make, how he's rediscovered his passion for The Rawk, and so on, ad nauseum. Which is complete and utter tosh. For as the title indicates, this is in fact Glenn's return to the glory days of Trapeze, fusing his love of rock, Stevie Wonder and funk, aligned to some sweet melodies, and above all else, the voice.
'Tis true, there are rockers, but they are actually the weaker numbers, especially the John Bonham tribute which veers sharply over the line between tribute and parody. However, faults are few and delights are many. So let's begin with the epic power funk ballad which will have grown men weeping into their beer, and women going weak at the knees. It's called "Written All Over Your Face", it lasts over eight minutes and it is a truly sublime piece of music which you absolutely have to own. No ifs, no buts, no maybes. Go get it. Now.
Right, you're back. Good. There's more top quality funk on "Get You Stoned", driven along by the powerful drumming of Red Hot Chili Pepper, Chad Smith. If there was any justice in this world, "Courageous" would be all over US radio, and a hit would be born. Horrifically catchy, I have found myself trying to hit notes that have been beyond me for 20 years. Nice.
The wistful, introspection of "The Truth" hits home hard, and is another melodic masterpiece. There's no indication of which guitarist plays which solo, so props have to go to both long standing alumni JJ Marsh, and the much travelled Jeff Kollman. Nice to see that Glenn plays bass all the way through and backing vocals are handled by former Santana bod, Alex Ligertwood.
This is by far, the best piece of solo work Glenn has produced in a long time with perhaps only 3 tracks out of 11 failing to pass muster. So, if you can get past the horrendous cover art, and yearn for the days when music got you higher, then this is essential. Oh, and yes there is a coda.

Breaking away from Savoy Brown to form this band, the members of Foghat knew from the start what sort of record they wanted to make. With heavy emphasis on the hard boogie, Foghat got down to work with the help of Dave Edmunds and crafted a hard rock gem. Covering Chuck Berry's "Maybellene," they goosed the beat up until it was almost a precursor of the heavy metal yet to come. Interspersing covers with original material, they immediately found a place for themselves in the rock world.

The band initially featured Dave Peverett ("Lonesome Dave") on guitar and vocals, Tony Stevens on bass, and Roger Earl on drums, after all three musicians left Savoy Brown in December 1970. Rod Price, on guitar/slide guitar, joined after he left Black Cat Bones. The new line-up was named "Foghat" (a nonsense word from a Scrabble-like game played by Peverett and his brother) in January 1971. There is a cartoon drawing on the back cover of the group's first album of a head wearing a foghat.

Best Of – Volume I is the first greatest hits album by American hard rock band Van Halen.
The album does not contain any songs from the band's 1982 album Diver Down. Best Of – Volume I also features "Humans Being", the band's contribution to the Twister soundtrack. The two newly recorded songs, "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise Magic", at the end of the album are with original lead vocalist David Lee Roth. These two songs were released as singles to promote this compilation. They are also the last songs recorded and released by the original Van Halen lineup of Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Roth and Michael Anthony. Some demos recorded by the original lineup in 2000 would later be re-recorded by the Van Halen brothers, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Roth for A Different Kind of Truth, released in 2012. Anthony did not play with Van Halen again following the band's 2004 tour. He was replaced by Eddie's son Wolfgang.
