Van Halen - Van Halen [24 Karat Gold Ed] (1978)

Year: February 10, 1978 (CD 1998)
Label: DCC Compact Classics Inc. (US), GZS-1129
Style: Hard Rock
Country: Pasadena, California, U.S.
Time: 36:07
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 241 Mb

Charts: US #19, CAN #18, AUS #17, NLD #10, NZ #22, UK #34. US: Diamond, UK: Gold, Germany: Gold, Finland: Gold, Canada: 4x Platinum, Netherlands: Platinum, France: Gold.
Van Halen‘s debut album is a pedal-to-the-metal hard rocker with a distinct approach that thundered onto the scene in early 1978. This self-titled album continues to rank among the top debuts of all time and makes appearances on other straight-up rock album lists. While not particularly original musically, Van Halen was completely original sonically. This was due to the jaw dropping speed and flair guitar work of Eddie Van Halen. With a noted lack of blues-based licks, which were replaced by a furious placement of picked, crunched, and hammered notes, Van Halen’s leads, solos, and riffs are the most indelible moments on a very memorable album. Forged in the fresh shadow of punk rock, the Van Halen sound showed that musical talent can be every bit as fresh, energetic, and bombastic. With this innovative record which sounds every bit as fresh 35 years after its release, Van Halen has risen to become Classic Rock Review’s album of the year for 1978.
Van Halen was formed in Southern California in 1972 by the brothers that give the band its name – guitarist Eddie and drummer Alex Van Halen. Born in the Netherlands, the Van Halen brothers were the sons of jazz musician Jan Van Halen and were “forced” to study classical piano at very young ages. When the brothers began playing rock and roll, Alex was actually on guitar and Eddie was on drums.  But once Alex heard his younger brother pick up the guitar and play more naturally, he forced him to switch instruments and took over as drummer. In 1974, the group rented a sound system from David Lee Roth and soon invited him to join as lead vocalist. Roth was the son of a renowned eye surgeon, who had considerable wealth and was the nephew of Manny Roth, who built and owned the New York establishment Cafe Wha?, which featured performers such like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. Roth possessed an in-your-face charisma that demanded attention (like a true frontman should). While not considered a particularly accomplished crooner, his yelps and screams fit perfectly within the high-energy sound of the group.

David Lee Roth (Van Halen) - Your Filthy Little Mouth [Japan Ed] (1994)

Year: March 8, 1994 (CD Mar 18, 1994)
Label: Reprise Records (Japan), WPCP-5780
Style: Hard Rock, Rock
Country: Bloomington, Indiana, U.S. (October 10, 1954)
Time: 61:09
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 449 Mb

Charts: US #78, AUS #91, FIN #12, GE #62, NZ #26, SWE #23, SWI #25, UK #28.
Released near Roth's critical and commercial nadir, Your Filthy Little Mouth did not conform to the expectations of rock music during 1994 (such as grunge rock), nor to the public's perception of Roth. The album features stripped-down arrangements that can be categorized as diversely as jazz fusion, dance, country, reggae, R&B, big band, rock, and blues. However, the commercial specialization of TV and radio formats during the early 1990s left such diverse albums with few options for airplay.
At the time of its release in 1994, Your Filthy Little Mouth received mixed reviews from music critics, and with particularly negative responses coming from heavy metal critics. While Roth's newly intricate lyrics were well-received, the wide range of genre exercises on Your Filthy Little Mouth earned Roth commensurate praise and derision. Deborah Frost of Entertainment Weekly graded the album a "B+", noting that "thanks to Nile Rodgers' skillful production, the result is Roth's most listenable, insightful, and hysterical effort in years." Randy Krbechek of MetroNews notes that "the album improves as it progresses; the horn-driven 'A Little Luck' and 'Cheatin' Heart Cafe', a duet with Travis Tritt, are substantial improvements, as is 'Sunburn,' with its snaky guitar intro".
Like Roth's earlier solo LP, Skyscraper (1988), Your Filthy Little Mouth met with a tepid response from listeners and critics who expected Roth to reproduce the hard rock sound of classic Van Halen; others criticized him for not distancing himself enough from the sound of classic-era Van Halen.

Paul Gilbert - The Dio Album [Japan Ed.] (2023)

Year: 7 April 2023 (CD April 7, 2023)
Label: Sony Music (Japan), SICX 185
Style: Instrumental, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
Country: Illinois, U.S. (November 6, 1966)
Time: 60:49
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 456 Mb

Paul Brandon Gilbert (born November 6, 1966) is an American hard rock and heavy metal guitarist. He is the co-founder of the band Mr. Big, and was also a member of Racer X, with whom he released several albums. In 1996, Gilbert launched a solo career, for which he has released numerous solo albums, and featured in numerous collaborations and guest appearances on other musicians' albums.
Gilbert was voted fourth-best on GuitarOne magazine's 2007 "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time". He was also ranked in Guitar World's 2008 list, "50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time".
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Gilbert#Solo)
A tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio, the album consists of instrumental covers of various Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio songs.
The Dio Album features 12 covers of some of the late legend Ronnie James Dio's most iconic works with a certain twist: Gilbert has replaced the would-be vocals with verbatim lead guitar parts.
Credit where it’s due for the technical and no-doubt painstaking precision, but lacking the guiding nuance of a voice, classics like Neon Knights and Starstruck are reduced to jarring, overplayed jumbles.
By track two’s annihilation of Kill The King, any novelty has ejected itself from the solar system. This labour of love sadly misses the mark.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970)

Year: January 26, 1970 (CD 2001)
Label: Columbia / Legacy (Europe), COL 495084 2
Style: Pop, Rock, Folk Rock
Country: New York City, U.S.
Time: 44:04
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 260 Mb

Charts: US, AUS, FIN, FRA, GER, JPN, NLD, NOR, SWE, UK, JPN, SPN - all country number 1. UK: 11x Platinum, US: 8x Platinum, Canada: 4x Platinum.
Bridge Over Troubled Water is the fifth and final studio album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, released in January 1970 on Columbia Records. Following the duo's soundtrack for The Graduate, Art Garfunkel took an acting role in the film Catch-22, while Paul Simon worked on the songs, writing all tracks except Felice and Boudleaux Bryant's "Bye Bye Love" (previously a hit for the Everly Brothers).
With the help of producer Roy Halee, the album followed a similar musical pattern as their Bookends LP, partly abandoning their traditional style to incorporate elements of rock, R&B, gospel, jazz, world music, pop and other genres. It was described as their "most effortless record and their most ambitious".
Despite numerous accolades, the duo decided to split up, and parted company later in 1970; Garfunkel continued his film career, while Simon worked intensely with music. Both artists released solo albums in the following years. Bridge includes two of the duo's most critically acclaimed and commercially successful songs, "Bridge over Troubled Water" and "The Boxer", which were listed on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Critically and commercially successful, the album topped the charts in over ten countries and received two Grammy Awards, plus four more for the title song. The album sold around 25 million records; making it at the time of release the best-selling album of all time. It has been ranked on several lists, including at number 172 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Rose Tattoo - Angry Metal - 20 Great Tracks [Compilation] (1993)

Year: 1981-1984 (CD 1993)
Label: Repertoire Records (Germany), REP 4309-WG
Style: Hard Rock
Country: Sydney, Australia
Time: 74:05
Format: Flac Tracks 16/44,1 kHz
Size: 519 Mb

On stage, Rose Tattoo look like nothing on earth but Rose Tattoo.
They stand out from the mass of bands in satin pants like a raw steak in a vegetarian restaurant. All those words like raw, uncompromising, savage - they all apply, but they?re not enough. Rose Tattoo have something more than that.
It's not only the way they look, although that's damn riventing. Four tall, gaunt men with unnaturally spikey red hair and the fifth out front stocky and furiously shaven headed aren't an average sight, even in the realm of Rock'n'Roll excesses. Kohled eyes smeared with sweat, black t-shirts chewed off at the shoulder sticking to their wet torsos, pants that were probably once jeans now so worn-in they're only hanging onto their wearers out of mutual admiration …. Even that's not all. Rose Tattoo are really tattooed; they all had tattoos of their own design before they decided to seal the band's fate with their intricate and oddly beautiful rose tattoos, all based on the theme of a rose and rock'n'roll. Each has an equally intricate ring permanently drawn on one finger, and a pierced ear ring as well.
The band gives an impression of overwhelming masculinity, a totally urban, night time jungle maleness that if considered objectively, would be awe inspiring, making an audience afraid rather than irresistibly drawn to go along with the band. It has something to do with having more than a hint of humor. You get the feeling that if some rich dame accosted them in twenty yards of mink they'd look at her straight in the false eyelashed and say: "What mug shot all the rabbits for ya?".

A Farewell to Kings is the fifth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in September 1977 by Anthem Records. After touring their previous album 2112 (1976), which saw the group reach a new critical and commercial peak, they started work on a follow-up. They decided to record at Rockfield Studios in Wales, the first time Rush recorded an album outside of Toronto. The band expanded their sound with each member playing new instruments that they had not previously used, and recorded a mix of concise and long songs.
A Farewell to Kings reached No. 11 in Canada and helped the group to continue to expand its audience internationally, reaching inside the top-40 in the UK and the US for the first time. "Closer to the Heart" was released as the album's first single, which reached No. 36 in the UK. Rush toured in support of the album from August 1977 to June 1978. The tour saw the band headline major venues across Canada and play in the UK.

...If I Die, I Die is the debut studio album by Irish rock band Virgin Prunes. It was released on 4 November 1982 by record label Rough Trade. It was produced by Colin Newman of Wire.
...If I Die, I Die has been well received by critics. AllMusic, in their retrospective review of the album, called it "a wonderfully confounding and sometimes campy and often disturbing exercise in unfettered creativity".[1] Chuck Eddy of Spin included it in his list of essential gothic rock albums, remarking that it "demonstrates that sometimes 'ritualistic' equals 'catchy'."
