Live at the Greek: Excess All Areas is a double live album by Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes.
In October 1999, Page teamed up with the Black Crowes for a two-night performance of material from the Led Zeppelin catalogue and old blues and rock standards. "I didn't really have that much fun doing it," said singer Chris Robinson. "It was alright, and Jimmy's a phenomenal guitarist, but to me it was just a job. I'm not a big fan of Robert Plant's lyrics or his singing, so that part of it was a little boring for me."
Contractual problems with their record company prevented the Crowes issuing any of their own songs which they played with Page at the Greek shows, such as "Wiser Time", "No Speak, No Slave", "Remedy" or "Hard to Handle".
The double CD released in 2000 featured a different running order, an extra song, an enhanced QuickTime video and photographs taken during the concert. The Japanese version of the album adds "Misty Mountain Hop" and "In the Light", recorded in 2000.
Bassist Sven Pipien, who was fired between the two releases of the album, was airbrushed out of the group shot in the centerfold of the TVT Records version and all subsequent vinyl reissues. The original image appears on the musicmaker.com CD and can also be seen on a Jimmy Page blog.

Nucleus were a British jazz-fusion band, which continued in different forms from 1969 to 1989. In 1970, the band won first prize at the Montreux Jazz Festival, released the album Elastic Rock, and performed both at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Village Gate jazz club.
The band was established by Ian Carr, who had been in the Rendell–Carr Quintet during the middle and late 1960s. Their debut album, Elastic Rock, and the next two collections, We'll Talk About It Later (1970) and Solar Plexus (1971), were all released on Vertigo Records, and music journalist Colin Larkin noted were "vital in any comprehensive rock or jazz collection".
Elastic Rock is Nucleus' first album. Recorded in January 1970, it was a pioneering work in emerging genre of jazz-rock fusion. Bandleader Ian Carr (later a jazz journalist and published expert on Miles Davis) was probably inspired by Davis' "going electric" in 1969, but the seminal Bitches Brew had not yet been released at the time Elastic Rock was recorded, and according to Carr, they hadn't even heard Davis' less rock-influenced 1969 electric release, In a Silent Way.
In July 1970 the group presented compositions from the LP at the Montreux Jazz Festival, winning the first prize. They subsequently performed both at Newport Jazz Festival and at the Village Gate jazz club.[4] It has gone on to be considered one of more underrated Jazz fusion albums of its time.

Many groups have been tagged "the hardest working band in the business" but during their Seventies heyday Nazareth had a better claim to the title than most They launched their career with an 18-month tour of their Scottish homeland and moved on to conquer England, Europe and the States in similar fashion. Their brand of aggressive, unadulterated heavy rock was heard at its best in live performance and during years of incessant touring Nazareth deservedly developed a huge worldwide following.
The long haul to the top began in Dunfermline, Scotland in the mid-Sixties, when vocalist Dan McCafferty, bassist Pete Agnew and drummer Darrell Sweet played in local group the Shadettes. In 1969 they joined with lead guitarist Manny Charlton to form Nazareth, taking their name from the classic Band song 'The Weight ' A year and a half on the road secured a solid Scottish audience but in 1971 the group moved to London in search of a record deal and wider commercial success. They signed to B&C Records and were introduced to the music press at a Soho stripclub, an occasion of memorable showbiz excess.
The hype took some living down and neither their debut album 'Nazareth9 nor the single release 'Morning Dew' made the charts. Their second album 'Exercises/ released in 1972, fared no better. But while record sales were disappointing, Nazareth throughout this period were gigging all over England and acquiring a reputation - especially on the college circuit - as a dynamic live act.
Their reward finally came in 1973, a year when several other Scottish acts (the Average White Band, Glencoe, the Sensational Alex Harvey Band) also struck lucky in England. A tour supporting Deep Purple introduced Nazareth to Purple bassist Roger Glover, who saw the group's potential and offered to produce their next album. 'Razamanaz9 proved their breakthrough release, climbing to No. 11 on the U.K. album charts and spawning two Top Ten singles, 'Broken Down Angel' and 'Bad Bad Boy.' Another Glover-produced album, 'Loud 9n9 Proud/ followed later the same year and established the band in Europe, reaching No. 1 in Sweden, Switzerland and Finland and No.2 in Germany. It also featured another hit single, and unusual hard-rock version of Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight' Guitarist Manny Charlton took over as producer for the next album, 'Hair Of The Dog9 (1975), which gave the group their biggest American album success, reaching No. 17 on the Billboard charts. The flow of hit singles continued with another unexpected cover version, Dan McCafferty exchanging his customary growl for an arresting high-pitched delivery on 'My White Bicycle, ' originally recorded in the Sixties by the psychedelic group Tomorrow. The Everly Brothers' oldie 'Love Hurts' was next to receive the Nazareth treatment and became the group's only LJ.S. Top Ten hit.
By this time the group's extensive touring had enabled them to break into several international markets and the album 'Rampant/ released in 1975, was certified gold in Canada prior to release. With Manny charlton again producing, the album featured Jon Lord of Deep Purple guesting on keyboards. The same year saw the release of a Dan McCafferty solo album. More albums followed in 1976 and 1977 - 'Close Enough For Rock 9n9 roll/ 'Play The Game9 and 'Expect No Mercy9 - but while the first of these made the U.S. charts this was generally a leaner period commercially for the band. An upturn in their fortunes came with the addition to the group of guitarist Zal Cleminson co-wrote many of the tracks on the album 'No Mean City9 (1979), which became Nazareth's most successful British album for almost five years and produced a Top Thirty single, 'May The Sun Shine.'
The Eighties brought further personnel changes. Cleminson left in 1980 and in 1981 keyboardist John Locke (formerly of Spirit) and guitarist Billy Rankin were added to the line-up. The band continued releasing albums (including 'Snaz/ a double live set recorded in Canada in 1981) but their days as a major chart act were over. Their live performances continued to pack in the crowds, however, and the reissue in the late Eighties of much of their early material bears witness to their enduring appeal.
On this album, culled from two BBC 'In Concert' appearances in 1972 and 1973, Nazareth are captured in stunning form, performing to an enthusiastic live audience with characteristic energy and aggression. Crank up the volume and prepare yourself for an undiluted dose of classic rock at its hardest.

Thirty Seconds Over Winterland is an album by the American psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane. It was recorded live in August and September 1972, at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago and the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. It was released in April 1973; reflecting the band's declining commercial stature, it only peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard chart.
Recorded during the Long John Silver tour, Thirty Seconds Over Winterland was the band's second live album, after Bless Its Pointed Little Head.
In 1989, software company Berkeley Systems released its immensely popular After Dark screensaver. The best-known of the various screensaver options was Flying Toasters. Jefferson Airplane sued Berkeley Systems in 1994, claiming that the toasters were a copy of the winged toasters featured on the Thirty Seconds album cover. The band's case was lost because Berkeley claimed no prior knowledge of the artwork, jacket cover art work had to be registered separately from the sound recording, and the judge noted the band had failed to trademark the cover art.

It was the first of three albums the band created after reforming in 1974 before they disbanded again in 1976. "Straight Shootin' Woman" was the last Steppenwolf song to chart on the Billboard magazine Top 40. The song "Children of the Night" notably posits that the hippie movement at this time had died, and president Richard Nixon is referred to as "the fool who believed that wrong is right".
Guitarist and composer Bobby Cochran replaced Kent Henry on lead guitar in this reformed lineup, until the 1976 breakup. Cochran is the late Eddie Cochran's nephew.
This was the last Steppenwolf album that Goldy McJohn would play on. He was sacked from the band by bandleader John Kay in 1975. A horn section also played on the album.

John Etheridge replaced Allan Holdsworth on guitar shortly after the release of the previous album, Bundles, and Alan Wakeman, cousin of Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman, took over saxophone duties from Karl Jenkins. Karl would play keyboards exclusively from this point onward. During the recording of the album, the group's last remaining original member, Mike Ratledge, left the band.
In 2019, Etheridge told Ed Masley that:
We came to record the album and Mike Ratledge never showed up. He had kind of been wanting to leave, he told me that. And I think the thought of making the album was the final straw, so he didn't show up. It didn't make a lot of difference, to tell you the truth, by then, which is a shame... But Karl Jenkins had sort of taken over and he was writing most of the music.
Two tracks recorded during the early sessions with Ratledge were included on the album. Wakeman and bassist Roy Babbington left the group not long after the album was released, Wakeman having been a member for less than six months. The album was originally to be titled One Over the Eight, a reference to this being the band's ninth album, but this title was eventually rejected.

Two Against Nature was met with both commercial and critical success. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from professional critics, the album received an average score of 77, based on 13 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Writing in March 2000 for The Village Voice, Robert Christgau applauded the music as an excellent "rock comeback" and a "jumpier and snappier, sourer and trickier and less soothing" iteration of the jazz pop featured on Steely Dan's 1977 album Aja, describing it as "postfunk". Thematically, he found it unified by fictitious yet revelatory accounts of "dirty old men" seeking "validation" and "excitement" in their sex lives, which are "full of heady infatuations and random acts of cruelty, self-interest and self-hate, vicious cycles blowing hot and cold", all conveying "the urgency of attraction". Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic appreciated the "sharp humor" in the lyrics, but was especially impressed by the music's "depth and character", as he observed "nearly endless permutations within their signature sound". A dissenting view came from Pitchfork reviewer Brent DiCrescenzo, who dismissed the songs as "lengthy, indistinguishable" and "glossy bop-pop" while suggesting Steely Dan lack "soul".
At the 2001 Grammy Awards, Two Against Nature earned Steely Dan wins in the categories of Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album – Non-Classical, and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals (for the single "Cousin Dupree"). For these awards, the band was in competition with younger, more popular recording acts such as NSYNC, Britney Spears, Radiohead, Beck, and Eminem. According to Stereogum writer Zach Schonfeld, Steely Dan's success at the Grammys represented a "revenge of the [baby] boomers" and contributed to resentment among younger listeners toward the band: "[T]he sight of two smug jazz-rock nerds collecting their Grammy from Stevie Wonder as Radiohead and Beck went home nearly empty-handed—helps explain why so many Gen X-ers and old millennials grew up loathing both Steely Dan and the Grammys in equal measure. Needless to say, Steely Dan's elliptical character studies set to yacht rock sleaze didn't speak to disaffected American youth the way, say, The Marshall Mathers LP did."
Steely Dan's supporting tour of North America, Europe, and Japan was equally successful, encouraging them to record the 2003 album Everything Must Go.

The Family Stone itself never thought very highly of Dance to the Music while they were recording it; its existence was the result of CBS executive Clive Davis' request for Sly Stone to make his sound more pop friendly. To appease his employer, Sly developed a formula for the band's recordings, which would still promote his visions of peace, brotherly love, and anti-racism while appealing to a wider audience. Most of the resulting Family Stone songs feature each lead singer in the band (Sly, Freddie Stone, Larry Graham, and newcomer Rose Stone) sharing the lead vocals by either singing them in unison or taking turns singing bars of each verse. In addition, the songs contained significant amounts of scat singing and prominent solos for each instrumentalist.
The formula not only worked in selling records, but influenced the entire music industry. When "Dance to the Music" became a Top 10 pop hit, R&B/soul producers and labels immediately began appropriating the new "psychedelic soul" sound. By the end of 1968, the Temptations had gone psychedelic, and the Impressions and Four Tops would join them within the space of two years. New acts such as the Jackson 5 and the Undisputed Truth would show heavy influence from Dance to the Music and its follow-ups, Life and Stand!. Many of the songs on this album (particularly the title track, "Are You Ready", "Ride the Rhythm", and the tracks that make up the "Dance to the Medley" that closes Side A) adhere closely to the formula, and also share chord progressions. Exceptions include "Color Me True", a more somber selection about how one fits in with society, Sly's solo number "Don't Burn Baby", and "I'll Never Fall in Love Again", a slow ballad sung by Larry Graham. Also included is the band's first Epic single, "Higher" (later reworked as "I Want to Take You Higher"), and a rerecording of their only release for Loadstone Records, "I Ain't Got Nobody".

Recorded during their American tour in late 1969 and centered around live versions of material from the Beggars Banquet-Let It Bleed era, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! is often acclaimed as one of the top live rock albums of all time, although its appeal has dimmed a little today. The live versions are reasonably different from the studio ones, but ultimately not as good, a notable exception being the long workout of "Midnight Rambler," with extended harmonica solos and the unforgettable section where the pace slows to a bump-and-grind crawl. Some Stones aficionados, in fact, prefer a bootleg from the same tour (Liver Than You'll Ever Be, to which this album was unleashed in response), or their amazing the-show-must-go-on performance in the jaws of hell at Altamont (preserved in the Gimme Shelter film). Fans who are unconcerned with picky comparisons such as these will still find Ya-Ya's an outstanding album, and it's certainly the Stones' best official live recording.

TRAFFIC's debut is one of the more neglected gems of the British psychedelia, probably due to the fact it never scored a hit in America, at least in the format it was released in UK. But it is a masterpiece of songwriting and eclecticism in its own right.
Winwood, Capaldi, Mason and Wood created an amazing album of seemingly different influences and approach. Psychedelic keyboards, hard guitar solo a la CREAM, British folk and music-hall, jazz paranoia and Indian raga with overall Winwood's soulful voice make an album that can be enjoyed over and over. Mason gives important musical component with his guitar, bass and sitar, offering one of the best raga moments in rock music, "Utterly Simple", which beats the Fab Four's "Within You, Without You" by and large IMO. Each song has its place on this mature record, but the title track - allegedly drug-influenced imagination - "Dear Mr. Fantasy" (which was to be honoured by such giants as THE GRATEFUL DEAD on their last official live set "Without a Net" in 1989), beautiful flute ballad "No Face, No Name, No Number", and "Coloured Rain" with distinguished Wood's saxophone are the highlights. One can notice that the peculiar sound of TRAFFIC, with dominating organ, piano and woodwinds (sax and flute) and with ever diminishing presence of lead guitar and bass guitar, makes it a sort of precursor of the acts like VAN DER GRAFF GENERATOR, albeit coming from different attitude: VDGG were always more avant-garde and "classically" influenced than TRAFFIC, who sticked with R'n'B, folk and jazz scheme. However, Wood's saxophone at certain moments sounds almost as crazy as Dave Jaxon's!
This is a wonderful album, keeping in mind that this review refers to the original UK version, that is one of true "proto-progressive" rock albums of the great period 1967- 69, worth investigating by any serious fan of this genre.

The Savage Resurrection was an American psychedelic rock band from the San Francisco Bay area, and were active in between 1967 and 1968. The band were known as one of the youngest psychedelic rock bands in the area, with their 16-year-old lead guitarist, Randy Hammon, who is the cousin of Blue Cheer drummer Paul Whaley. There was only one member of the band who was not a teenager, and that was Steve Lage, who was 21.
Founded in 1967, the group was signed to Mercury Records, on which they released their eponymous debut in 1968. Their album was produced by Abe "Voco" Kesh who is famous with his work with the band Blue Cheer and Harvey Mandel. Their sound was close to groups such as Love and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Singer Bill Harper and bassist Steve Lage quit the band shortly thereafter, leading to the demise of the group. The band continued on touring until late 1968 and then disbanded. Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond has cited the Savage Resurrection as one of his biggest influences and, in October 2008, performed a live set with guitarist Randy Hammon. There was some suspicion that Randy Hammon was actually Randy Holden due to some citing that was done in Joe Carducci's book, The Pop Narcotic; this seems to be a misconception.
Bill Harper went on to write and perform, notably appearing on an LP and several singles with The Stepford Husbands in the early '80s. Jeff Myer recorded and toured extensively throughout the '70s and '80s with Van Morrison, Jesse Colin Young, Janis Ian, Tom Fogerty, Terry and The Pirates (with Terry Dolan, John Cipollina, and Greg Douglass), and reggae band The Edge (with the Rowan brothers). Former band member Steve Lage, who was born Stephen Allen Lage on August 15, 1947, died on July 25, 2010 in Oakland, California.

Mungo Jerry are an eclectic British folk/jug/rock/blues band that was formed by singer/guitarist Ray Dorset in 1970. The other original members were: Mike Cole (upright bass), Paul King (guitar/kazoo/jug), Joe Rush (washboard), Colin Earl (keyboards), and Alan Johnson (guitar/banjo). The group got their name from a T.S. Eliot poem. Mungo Jerry scored a massive international smash success in 1970 with the supremely catchy, mellow and soothing "In the Summertime;" the delightfully frothy and upbeat song was a #1 British chart hit for seven weeks straight, cracked the Top 10 in America, and has reportedly sold over 16 million copies worldwide. ("In the Summertime" has been featured on the soundtracks to such films as "Wedding Crashers," "Mr. Deeds," "Stolen Summer," "Drowning Mona," "Twin Town," and "29th Street.") The group was named the best new band of 1970 by the British music newspaper "Melody Maker." Their follow-up song "Baby Jump" was also a #1 chart hit in England, but alas didn't fare too well overseas. However, Mungo Jerry enjoyed a steady succession of 70's British radio hits that include "Maggie," "Johnny Be Badde," "Mighty Man," "Lady Rose," "You Don't Have to Be in the Army to Fight in the War," "Open Up," "Alright Alright Alright," "Wild Love," "Long Legged Woman Dressed in Black," "Hello Nadine," and "It's A Secret." The band had a couple of international hits in the early 80's with "On a Night Like This" and a cover of Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Although the group has experienced numerous line-up changes throughout the years, Mungo Jerry nonetheless continue to perform live and record new albums with Ray Dorset remaining as the lead singer for the band.

SECRET OYSTER became somewhat of a super group when members of BURNIN'RED IVANHOE, CORONARIAS DANS and HURDY GURDY formed this unit. By the end of BURNIN' RED IVANHOE's career (that spawned seven years), Karsten Vogel started forming a new band taking along with him BRI's drummer Thrige and often jazz-partner bassist Vinding with him. Knowing from the Danish circuit guitarist Claus Bohling, he enticed him into the band that took its name from a track from BRI's second album Secret Oysters Service. The last to join was keyboardist Knudsen, who had never played an electric instrument prior to entering this outfit, but was playing in a piano avant-garde trio. Knudsen would prove particularly helpful as the second songwriter of the group and allowing Vogel to leave the keyboards at will to play wind instruments.
Their sound recalled MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, NUCLEUS, Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi and Sextant albums as well as Miles DAVIS's Bitches Brew. Quite a success and this prompted their record company to release that album internationally but under the title "Furtive Pearl". After a line-up changze that saw the rhythm section get a complete overhaul (Staer for Vinding and Streenberg for Thrige) their second album, Sea Son, is even better but failed to get international public recognition, even if all connoisseur will mostly agree on this album being the band's apex. At one point the line-up of this group was also exactly the same as BURNIN' RED IVANHOE (after it got revived because they also developed rockier material) as well as a third outfit, "Day Of The Phoenix". This did not stop them from writing the music to a ballet "Vidunderlinge Kaelling" released as an album under the name of "Astarte", with very mixed results just a few months before their final album, the much better "Straight From The Krankenhaus" also known as "Orlander".
Aside from their confusion of their album names and general discography, SECRET OYSTER is a great jazz-rock/fusion outfit that deserved a lot more attention for they were almost as good as the groups named above.

Though not without its moments, 1971's Fireball described something of a non-descript holding pattern for Deep Purple. Not a bad album as such it was, artistically at least, a curious underachiever compared to In Rock. What they needed was something with as much impact and which delivered them new standards to ensure their upwards path. With not a lot of spare change in the pocket as far as new material went, the recording session was a fraught affair. Yet out of such adversity, Purple dug deep into their reserves producing their strongest and most consistent set.
Released in 1972, Machine Head become the benchmark against which everything that followed would be judged against. In the canon of heavy rock this is an album replete with classic tracks. Concise in nature, killer punches are only ever a minute away no matter which song you play. Vocalist Ian Gillan excels himself on "Highway Star," and "Never Before", the latter an excellent single, released ahead of the album covering both pop, rock and some righteously funky turn-arounds. Blackmore dominates the album turning in some of his most understated and reflective playing on "When A Blind Man Cries" (the b-side to the single and not included on the original album) and of course, "Smoke On The Water."
Its devastating simplicity is the foundation stone of the whole record and one of rock's most archetypal riffs. Not only heavy as hell, it was insanely catchy and the long-haired denim-wearing world grasped it to their bosom without a moment's hesitation. Detailing the burning of the casino near Lake Geneva (which caused yer actual smoke on the water), the lyrical content perhaps presaged the internal fires that would consume the group.
Released in May it went straight to number one but by August Gillan had resigned. Though he would stay on to record the live Made In Japan and the lack-lustre, Who Do We Think We Are, the mark II line-up was all over bar the shouting - and there was going to be plenty of that. Machine Head however remains their finest hour.

Blaze of Glory is the debut solo studio album by Jon Bon Jovi, the frontman of Bon Jovi. The album was released on August 7, 1990, through Mercury Records. It includes songs from and inspired by the movie Young Guns II. Emilio Estevez originally approached Bon Jovi to ask him for permission to include the song "Wanted Dead or Alive" on the soundtrack.[5]
Elton John, Little Richard, and Jeff Beck contributed to the album. It was awarded a Golden Globe and received Academy Award and Grammy nominations.
The title track "Blaze of Glory" was released as the first single and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Mainstream rock charts. "Miracle" was released as the second single and charted at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #20 on the Mainstream rock charts[8] and the third single "Never Say Die" charted in Australia, Canada and Poland but was not released in the US. "Dyin Ain't Much of a Livin'" featuring Elton John and "Santa Fe" were released as promo singles.
In 1998, a country duet version of "Bang a Drum" was released with country singer Chris LeDoux, the track was released as a single with a music video and reached number 68 on the US Hot Country Songs chart.

Concert for George was issued on 17 November 2003 in Britain, with a US release following on 18 November. A double album, it peaked at number 97 on America's Billboard chart.
Uncut magazine's reviewer wrote: "Concerts like these are usually long on sentiment and short on worthwhile content. But under the directorship of Eric Clapton, the concert for George Harrison at the Albert Hall in November 2002 was an exception. The event exudes a powerful atmosphere and genuine musicality..." Writing in The Word, Paul Du Noyer described the posthumous tribute to Harrison as "the grandest send-off that he could possibly have wished for". Du Noyer said of the live album, "Its sins are only those of omission", and recommended the accompanying DVD release, before concluding: "In either format, however, [Joe Brown's] show-closing 'I’ll See You In My Dreams' is an exquisitely poignant note to end upon".

After several solo projects for Grunt Records, the members of Jefferson Airplane (Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Joey Covington and Papa John Creach) came together again in March 1972 for the first time in the studio since the Bark album was released in September 1971. Sessions at Wally Heider Studios continued for nearly three months, but tensions were high and several songs were recorded by each member recording their own part separately. David Crosby participated in the recording sessions, but his vocals were stripped from the record at the insistence of his label.
Joey Covington left the band during the sessions, with accounts varying over whether he was fired. Veteran session drummer John Barbata, formerly of The Turtles, and Hot Tuna's Sammy Piazza deputized for the rest of the recording process. Barbata ultimately replaced Covington, playing on all but three songs.
Recording was completed in May, 1972. Before the album's scheduled July release, RCA Records demanded that the band remove a line from the song "The Son of Jesus" electronically, which referred to a "bastard son of Jesus". Live performances of the song left the line intact.

Seven is the seventh studio album by the jazz rock band Soft Machine, released in 1973. Bassist Roy Babbington, who had previously worked with the band as a session musician on the Fourth (1971) and Fifth (1972) albums, joined the band as a full-time member, replacing Hugh Hopper, who left to begin a solo career. This line-up change meant more than half of Soft Machine was now former members of the band Nucleus.
The album was issued on CBS Records with a colour gatefold cover in the UK, with black and white photos of the band members on the inside cover. In the USA, Columbia Records released a single sleeve cover that moved the band photos to the front. The title on the USA front cover is the numeral 7, but is spelled out as Seven on the spine and label. Although this is a 1973 release, USA copies show a copyright date of 1974 (and a phonographic rights date of 1973), suggesting the North American release may have been delayed. It was the last of their studio releases to carry a numbered title.
The titles of the final two tracks are clearly intended as a joke. The preceding track, "Down the Road", fades into a swirling abstract jumble of notes on keyboards which plays with little variation for three minutes before fading out, and there is nothing musically to indicate the transition from German to French lessons, and no explanation as to why these two tracks are credited to different composers.

Don't be fooled by the rich colors and bright sunlight on the cover of Marianne Faithfull's 23rd album: The whiskey-voiced singer whose career has been marked by dark tales of doomed liaisons sung in a world-weary style that harks directly back to cabaret progenitors Lotte Lenya and Marlene Dietrich hasn't suddenly taken a turn to the emotional light. Look closer at the seashore cover image and you'll spot an empty pair of red high heels at the shoreline from which a horse is sauntering away.
Teaming again with producer Hal Willner, who oversaw her critically lauded 2008 album "Easy Come Easy Go," Faithfull delves into what she seems to know best: decay of all varietals, including the decay of passion, of relationships, even of civilizations in Tennessee songwriter-playwright-actor R. B. Morris' benedictory "That's How Every Empire Falls."
The album was recorded primarily in New Orleans with backing from a number of Crescent City aces who bring a lively funk groove to several tracks including Jackie Lomax's "No Reason" and New Orleans R&B patriarch Allen Toussaint's "Back In Baby's Arms."
There's stately rock elegance to "Prussian Blue" and the title track, two of the four numbers Faithfull co-wrote this time out, but the centerpiece may just be "Past, Present and Future." The hyper-theatrical Arthur Butler-Jerry Leiber-George Francis Morton song sounds written for her with its fatalistic assessment of the prospect of happily ever after. "Was I ever in love?" she sings, uttering the query like it's a distant and not terribly fond memory. Who else makes disillusionment sound so exquisitely beautiful?

First purchased this album back in 1975. Lost it some years later and was unable to find a replacement. Finally found a CD version of it. "Moonlight Lady" and "Land of A Thousand Nights" are my two favorite cuts from the album. Those two songs alone are worth the price of the CD. After all these years, so great to hear this album again! Frank Marino has been compared to Jimi Hendrix, and I definitely hear the comparisons, especially on this record!

I already knew this album was great! This album is pretty hard to find in better than good condition. Always liked the artwork! Franke Marino is not just one of the many true guitar masters, he was and still is one of the great musical composing wizards! This album is just a taste of his early years and a fantastic display of his out of this world brilliance!

Felix Pappalardi was most famous as the producer of Cream and the bassist for one of the first American hard rock acts, Mountain; sadly, he's also remembered for the tragic shooting that claimed his life at age 43. Pappalardi was born December 20, 1939, in the Bronx and studied classical music at the University of Michigan; upon returning to New York, he was unable to find work as a conductor and soon drifted into the Greenwich Village folk scene. He soon made a name for himself as a skilled arranger, and from there moved into record production, initially concentrating on folk and folk-rock acts like Tim Hardin, the Youngbloods, Joan Baez, Richard & Mimi Farina, Ian & Sylvia, and Fred Neil. However, it was Pappalardi's late-'60s work with the psychedelic blues-rock outfit Cream - beginning with their second album, Disraeli Gears - that really established his reputation; Pappalardi sometimes contributed additional instrumentation for his imaginative studio arrangements and he and wife, Gail Collins, co-wrote "Strange Brew" with Eric Clapton.
In 1968, Pappalardi was asked to produce an Atlantic Records band called the Vagrants, which featured a young guitarist named Leslie West. The following year, he produced West's solo album Mountain; after Cream disbanded, Pappalardi and West formed the hard rock band Mountain, whose hit single "Mississippi Queen" remains a staple of classic rock radio. Mountain broke up in 1972, reunited in 1974, and disbanded again in 1975; afterwards, Pappalardi was forced to, for the most part, retire from performing due to partial hearing loss caused by Mountain's extreme volume. However, he was able to return to production, and also recorded an album with the Japanese hard rock outfit Creation, who had opened for Mountain on their Japanese tours; Felix Pappalardi & Creation was released on A&M in 1976. In 1979, Pappalardi released his first proper solo album, Don't Worry, Ma, which reflected his growing interest in funk, jazz fusion, and reggae, and featured a large supporting cast, including bassist Chuck Rainey and drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie.
On the night of April 17, 1983, tragedy struck: Pappalardi was shot once in the neck by his wife, Gail Collins, and killed. He had been involved in a long-standing affair with a younger woman, of which Collins had knowledge; however, a jury supported Collins' claim that the shooting was accidental, occurring while Pappalardi was showing her how to use the gun. She was convicted of criminally negligent homicide rather than the far more serious charge of second-degree murder; sentenced to four years, Collins quietly disappeared afterward.

If you want to experience the true 'inner nature of Elvis, this is it. Here he is, unencumbered by the need to satisfy his manager, his recording company, his fans or even his own expectations. He simply stopped in to say hi to the guy who first gave him a chance to sing for a living, Sam Phillips. As luck would have it, he met three other friends finishing a recording session that day. Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis were sitting around talking, Elvis joined in to catch up on what each had been doing, and that led into a full blown 'jam session'. ! They sang what came naturally to these southern boys, what they grew up listening to.... Southern Gospel Music. Probably half of what you hear is gospel songs, with a smattering of 'old country and r & b. All you hear is mostly a guitar and piano being played. They are totally unaware that Sam has turned the 'mike' on and is recording the whole thing. ! This is just a few 'ole country boys' sittin' round a piano, singin' whatever comes to mind. The tape was made on Tuesday, December 4th, 1956 and was not released until November, 1989. Because Sam had the aforethought to turn on the recorder, we have a piece of priceless recorded history. !! This is the closest we ever come to hearing Elvis singing for the pure joy of singing what he loved best, his beloved Gospel Music....his ''roots''. And none of them ever knew they were being recorded that day. !!
